The story of Árpád Weisz, a Hungarian Jew, a successful football player and trainer in Italy in the '30s, then a refugee in the Netherlands after Mussolini's racial laws (the one who “did so many good things” according to a number of political intriguers in today's Italy) and finally deported to Auschwitz, where he died on January 31, 1944. In this International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Árpád Weisz's story is told by a 18 yo rapper from Novara, Andrea Licata ”Red Riot”, a boy having so a strong desire to remember what too many people have forgotten. His rap song is called L'allenatore in campo (“The midfield trainer”).

He used to say he had always lived, and he would die, in balance. Only once did he loose his balance with a song, and said it was “the most beautiful of all”: his 'Αρνηση. Then silence came, the silence of a Μπαλάντα της σιωπής in the same language, and once again there was a refusal, an άρνηση inside. Thus we have decided to dedicate him both songs in this day, εἰς μνήμην, and both by the same voice of Maria Farandouri. Some years ago, on 28 November, Gian Piero Testa took his flight to αθανασία.

Cornelis Vreeswijk died exactly 30 years ago, on 12 November 1987. This website includes since years about ten of this songs, maybe just a little neglected: so let's start knowing them a little better, on the 30th anniversary of his death and beginning from his Blues för Victor Jara.

Today, after a two-months work, we completed the insertion of the songs included in a very beautiful and very rare LP by Beppe Chierici and Daisy Lumini "La cattiva erba" (The Weed) published in 1970.
The LP contains 15 songs, translated into Italian from poems and antiwar songs ranging from Archilochus and Laozi to Antoine over more than 2500 years.
Some tracks were already present in the original version. The Italian lyrics were transcribed thanks to Flavio Poltronieri who provided us with a copy of the record, that is now completely available on youtube. We found some of the missing tracks on the web, with the help of B.B. and of Renè Zosso, a Swiss hurdy-gurdy player.

Se dovessi dare un’immagine della mia anima le darei quella delle colline. Delle colline marchigiane. Morbide, come onde di un mare in quiete, a volte anche malinconiche. Casa mia. Colline che oggi non sono più quelle fatte da padre Dio o da madre Natura, perché a renderle così (come la mia anima) c’è stato e c’è ancora tanto lavoro. Quello degli uomini della terra, i contadini.
Il seme e la speranza è un disco dedicato alla terra e al lavoro nei campi.

Sono passati già alcuni mesi dall'uscita di “Here”, ultimo album di Alicia Keys, e nessuno aveva ancora contribuito questa splendida canzone, un CCG/AWS pura.
Mi sono chiesto come mai e la prima risposta che mi è venuta in mente non è stata la distrazione o il fatto che, alla fine, non sono molti i contributori costanti su questo bel sito. Credo invece che anche qui alligni un poco un certo pregiudizio da “intellettuali”, che la musica pop è un genere essenzialmente commerciale e che difficilmente possa generare canzoni come questa, belle, forti, dirette, compromesse contro le guerre, l'odio, il razzismo, l'intolleranza.
Per fortuna quella di Alicia Keys è una di quelle voci del pop che sfata completamente quella falsa opinione, e per questo mi accingo ad indagare meglio la sua ormai vasta produzione, che sulle CCG/AWS annovera od oggi solo due o tre canzoni.

L'alternativa alla rassegnazione è nella speranza: una speranza che cerca di riconquistare a poco a poco quella dignità spesso dimenticata, una speranza sottile che la musica tenta di risvegliare. È alle braccia di questa speranza non retorica, fondata su uno sguardo onesto ed impietoso sulla realtà del nostro tempo, che ci affidiamo per non affogare.

In the army the Leveller movement culminated in insurrection, which was crushed (May). Among the casualties were three soldiers executed at Burford in Oxfordshire. (These did not include Anthony Sedley, who scratched his name on the font while imprisoned in the church.)
Meanwhile, the Diggers were making a more peaceful protest by 'occupying', as we
might now put it, St George's Hill on 1 April. This was common land, near Weybridge in Surrey, and the Diggers' intention was to cultivate it by joint labour. Despite harassment by Cromwell's officers and local landlords, the Diggers struggled on until 1651 before their movement faded... (Continues)

Quando a alegria for de todos

Sou filha do poeta,Teresa Pinho, cuja lírica"Quando a alegria for de todos" foi musicada por Fernando Lopes Graça. António Pinho escreveu Grito de Guerra que foi censurado e mais tarde, sob o pseudónimo de André Varga, escreveu Muro Transposto(que foi prémio Almeida Garrett) e Bicho da Terra, para além de livros de prosa e diálogos radiofónicos de aspecto cultural. Depois de falecer, encontrei poemas inéditos, que estou a tentar divulgar.

Ciao, vi segnalo che questa frase contiene un errore:
'Il pezzo fu arrangiato da Ennio Morricone e cantato da Peter Tevis per il film "Per un pugno di dollari" di Sergio Leone.'
In realtà Morricone arrangiò per la prima volta il pezzo per un 45 giri di Peter Tavis pubblicato nel 1962. La base del brano fu poi utilizzata come base per la musica dei titoli di testa di "Per un pugno di dollari" ma la voce di Peter Tavis fu sostituita dal celebre fischio di Alessandro Alessandroni, che tra l'altro fischia una melodia completamente diversa dal cantato di Peter Tavis.

Quella di Gaia é una traduzione parecchio da educande od edulcorata per un sito pacifista. Ma in realtà:
a) die Waffe, in tedesco é inequivocabilmente 'l'arma' e conseguentemente 'alzare (o rivolgere) l'arma su chi ci ha educati alla guerra' é abbastanza diverso dall'alzare verso loro l'anima: sicuramente non ci si ripromette d'intraprendere una loro evoluzione pacifica, né tantomeno di dar loro una spuntatina ai capelli;
b) il verbo 'töten' altrettanto inequivocabilmente significa 'uccidere' e non morire;
c) L'ultima strofa richiede prima di tutto una considerazione tipicamente anarchica e cioé che l'anarchico é un senzapatria, per cui proprio non può immaginare una 'Heimatschlacht' (intendi: battaglia per la patria)
- anche se proprio non capisco perché M. non abbia usato 'Bürgerschlacht' (intendi: battaglia civile), che manteneva rima e metrica e avrebbe definito univocamente la... (Continues)

Sarcasmo lacerante ma di qualità eccelsa!
Noske era il ministro della guerra che aveva arruolato e scatenato i temibili Frei Korps,
responsabili sia d'infami stragi, della deposizione della bavarese Repubblica dei Consigli (di cui era ministro delle finanze l'eccelso GESELL) sia dell'assassinio di Rosa LUXEMBURG.
Mi meraviglio solo di trovar coinvolto e maltrattato anche Parvus HELPHAND,il russo-tedesco che aveva ideato ed organizzato l'interessato ritorno di LENIN in Russia, attraverso la Germania in guerra con la Russia,
nonché – a quanto si dice – il socialista che ebbe per primo l'intuizione della Rivoluzione Permanente, poi teorizzata dal suo grande amico TROCKIJ, da me venerato.
Ma M. stava là, e bisogna quindi credergli, mentre io mi trovo a 100 anni di distanza.

Sono un grande ammiratore di M. fuorché di questa poesia - che a mio giudizio - non gli rende onore. Suggerisco di spostare tutta la commovente nota biografica sotto 'Der Gefangene' - che invece la merita pienamente - e, al Vostro posto, neanche escluderei di cancellare questa.

La più famosa, delle poesie del grande anarchico, ma in cui in realtà l'ultimo verso d'ogni strofa, tradotto letteralmente é uno scarsamente comprensibile, non significativo e glaciale “rassegnarsi significa mentire!”
Ovviamente quel mentire é un mentirsi, un autoingannare se stessi da quindi rifiutare, da cui la mia sintesi, fatta col potere del traduttore-ermeneuta
(intendi: il traduttore simbiotico con l'autore e che quindi – mentre la scrittura può comunicare solo il definito – riesce a percepire anche il cosiddetto 'scritto tra le righe') io la sento così, emozionalmente; e, così aggiustata, a me piace di più e mi auguro che di più piaccia a Voi.

Propongo questo brano per commentare l'escalation guerrafondaia con cui nel giro di pochi giorni The Donald è riuscito a sfrucugliare sia il vespaio mediorientale che quello nordcoreano a suon di Tomahawk e Mother Of All Bombs (MOAB).
Non penso che Kim Jong-un e Putin siano rimasti più impressionati di tanto dalla prova di forza americana ma adesso inevitabilmente partirà la gara a chi ce l'ha più grosso e più lungo. E quanto a missilozzi e bombacce varie ai due signori di cui sopra non glielo mette in culo nessuno. Parlando anche solo di ordigni convenzionali, se quel cowboy di Trump c'ha la MOAB, quel kazzuto di Putin c'ha il FOAB, il Father Of All Bombs, quattro volte più potente.

I never met George Michael but I wish I had. I would have thanked him for the beautiful performance of my song "The Grave" which he did to protest the invasion of Iraq and the disastrous war which he knew would follow and still continues. The authorities had everybody cowered in the shadows as we hoped for a '60s style protest which never materialized. George Michael was fearless and had a great artist's need to speak the truth even in cowardly times. We should remember what he did. I always will.
