The story of Árpád Weisz, a Hungarian Jew, a successful football player and trainer in Italy in the '30s, then a refugee in the Netherlands after Mussolini's racial laws (the one who “did so many good things” according to a number of political intriguers in today's Italy) and finally deported to Auschwitz, where he died on January 31, 1944. In this International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Árpád Weisz's story is told by a 18 yo rapper from Novara, Andrea Licata ”Red Riot”, a boy having so a strong desire to remember what too many people have forgotten. His rap song is called L'allenatore in campo (“The midfield trainer”).

He used to say he had always lived, and he would die, in balance. Only once did he loose his balance with a song, and said it was “the most beautiful of all”: his 'Αρνηση. Then silence came, the silence of a Μπαλάντα της σιωπής in the same language, and once again there was a refusal, an άρνηση inside. Thus we have decided to dedicate him both songs in this day, εἰς μνήμην, and both by the same voice of Maria Farandouri. Some years ago, on 28 November, Gian Piero Testa took his flight to αθανασία.

Cornelis Vreeswijk died exactly 30 years ago, on 12 November 1987. This website includes since years about ten of this songs, maybe just a little neglected: so let's start knowing them a little better, on the 30th anniversary of his death and beginning from his Blues för Victor Jara.

Today, after a two-months work, we completed the insertion of the songs included in a very beautiful and very rare LP by Beppe Chierici and Daisy Lumini "La cattiva erba" (The Weed) published in 1970.
The LP contains 15 songs, translated into Italian from poems and antiwar songs ranging from Archilochus and Laozi to Antoine over more than 2500 years.
Some tracks were already present in the original version. The Italian lyrics were transcribed thanks to Flavio Poltronieri who provided us with a copy of the record, that is now completely available on youtube. We found some of the missing tracks on the web, with the help of B.B. and of Renè Zosso, a Swiss hurdy-gurdy player.

“Non c’è bisogno di ascoltare le previsioni del tempo per sapere da che parte soffia il vento”, un verso celeberrimo che, nonostante l’apparente nichilismo del brano, all’epoca venne preso in prestito addirittura dal gruppo armato rivoluzionario, la “Weather Underground Organization”(WUO), meglio conosciuta per l’appunto come “Weatherman”, nata nel 1969 nell’Università del Michigan all’interno del movimento “Students for a Democratic Society” (SDS)

Visto che nell'introduzione di B.B. è citato il titolo "Give the anarchist a cigarette", c'è una canzone dei Chumbawamba dal medesimo titolo e contenuta nell'album Anarchy del 1994 che proprio a Dylan è dedicata. Il bootleg citato è successivo (2002), così come il libro di Mike Farren (2001).

He replied gruffly, "Albert, give the anarchist a cigarette", essentially shrugging off the idea with a sarcastic joke. Non so se il testo sia in slang dell’Oklahoma, resta il fatto che si tratta di una canzone sull’amore ai tempi della bomba atomica. Molto attuale anche oggi, purtroppo.

Elona Planman, giovane strega svedese che l'Adriana avrebbe volentieri scovata in un sabba, ma che invece più prosaicamente ha scovata sulla pagina del Libro De' Ceffi (leggasi: Feisbuk) di David Rovics (uno che ha 162 canzoni su questo sito, no, tanto per dire...), è una parecchio tosta. Una, insomma, da mettercisi immediatamente a “lavorare” sopra. Chanson française – L’Aube – Marco Valdo M.I. – 2017
Cette canzone est une évolution d’une canzone léviane que j’avais écrite à partir d’un passage de L’Orologio, roman étonnamment poétique de Carlo Levi. Cette évolution se justifie par le contexte auquel renvoie la jeunesse de Carlo Levi – le Turin de la guerre (1915 sqq) où le jeune Carlo (lycéen – il était né en 1902) le nez sur les Alpes et les grands massacres sur fond blanc prenait le parti du refus de cette guerre. Il faut dire qu’il avait de l’ascendance, sa mère, prénommée Annetta, était la sœur de Claudio Treves, journaliste et militant socialiste et pacifiste convaincu. Claudio Treves fut un précurseur de l’antifascisme et d’un antifascisme net et clair, irrémédiable. Déjà en 1915, il affronta au sabre et saigna à l’oreille le futur dictateur. Negli anni del boom economico (vero o fasullo) l’Italia pare essere effettivamente il paese della dolce vita: sole, belle donne e tutti a spasso a bordo di una fiammante FIAT 600 (rigorosamente bianca).
Tra le taverne milanesi però c’era chi tra un vinello e l’altro gettava una sguardo disilluso su questo miracolo italiano, andando a creare una sorta di scuola d’avanspettacolo teatrale comico: Nanni Svampa, Dario Fo, Enzo Jannacci, Cochi e Renato, Rudy Send (Alessandro Sempio) e Luciano Sada noto come El Pinza. Tra stornelli e cabaret, il dialetto come forma espressiva popolare diventa il medium perfetto per veicolare il loro spirito dissacrante, riuscendo a dire cose che in italiano sarebbero state assai poco politically correct.

Affermare che “Il denaro” fosse una canzone è un’esagerazione: diciamo che era un provino. Anche parlare di incisione, poi, è sovradimensionante. Piuttosto possiamo definirla una prova. Un registratorino da pochi soldi. Fruscii continui. Una voce ruvida e spigolosa. Echi di fastidi sonori in sottofondo. Nemmeno il testo era completo. Accenni ai diversi colori del denaro. Immaginifici accostamenti a improperi da indirizzare ai suoi possessori. Poeticità abbacinante di un uomo che, dopotutto, era tanto meravigliosamente incompiuto quanto la sua ultima “canzone”. Sul rigetto da parte del popolo dei giacobini si sa poco, complice una storiografia fedele a una vulgata che lascia spazio solo ai presunti 'eroi 'della Repubblica partenopea. Vorrei solo far presente che il "Saturno" di cui all'ultimo strofa di "Se gh'han de dì" qui sopra citata è il nome di una famiglia di propulsori missilistici americani originariamente progettati dallo scienziato nazista Wernher von Braun, passato al soldo degli USA nel dopoguerra. I Saturn furono per esempio i missili usati nelle missioni lunari del programma Apollo.
