Caro Renato, Battiato tutto è fuorché un'intellettuale (e tantomeno da strapazzo). È soprattutto uno spiritualista, un raffinatissimo filosofo e un poeta.
Bisogna abituarsi alla sua poetica: è come imparare una lingua nuova, una volta compresa la struttura tutto diventa chiarissimo e semplicissimo (ciò vale per tutti i poeti). la sua poetica al contrario è semplicissima, addirittura terra-terra, ma estremamente sintetica: parla praticamente per ideogrammi: in un solo verso con pochissime parole esprime un concetto su cui altri scriverebbero un intero libro.
Certe sue canzoni sono un vero e proprio manifesto.
La sua poetica estremamente sintetica utilizza vere e proprie immagini flash, citazioni (ogni citazione contiene l'intera filosofia dell'autore citato), e tanta, tantissima ironia (spesso anche auto-ironia), che – purtroppo è notorio – in Italia è una forma retorica pressoché sconosciuta... Concordo con gli interventi di Riccardo Venturi e vorrei aggiungere che una delle più famose canzoni considerate contro la guerra, "La guerra di Piero" di De André, parla di un soldato (chissà se la cantano nelle caserme insieme a "La Ballata dell'eroe"!?), così come parlano di soldati "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" o "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye". Forse perchè proprio attraverso la voce di chi la guerra l'ha fatta si può riflettere sulla stupidità e la mostruosità della guerra?

The Korea war saw a classic ‘Cold War’ dynamic where the United States intervened in South Korea after an invasion of the country a few days earlier from the North Korean communist regime, who was supported by Stalin. First referred to as a police action by the then president H.S. Truman, it was in fact, a military one. It is estimated that there were 33,686 U.S. deaths during the war.
The song is often referred to as the “Forgotten” or “Unknown” war, for the lack of public attention that it received, especially in relations to the wars that preceded (World War II) and succeeded it (Vietnam War).
