It considered the pain felt by those fighting: "soldiers laying in mud". It also looked at the family and friends of soldiers in the US: "mothers and fathers at home crying". The 1971 track "See What You Done, Done (Hymn No. 9)" about a Vietnam veteran who became a drug addict, was composed by Atlanta, Georgian soul singer Delia Gartrell and her husband James T. Shaw, otherwise known as The Mighty Hannibal (he also released a Vietnam War song in 1966 with a similar name, but different theme - Hymn No. 5). Soul song called "Bring My Buddies Back" (Stone Lady # SL-006), which had a very similar sound and theme to Freda Payne's "Bring The Boys Home" - except in this case the plea came from the perspective of a war veteran, asking the government to end the war and send his friends home.
The very first line actually referenced Payne, saying: "Hey Freda, maybe you were right". The song went on to recall one of his friends dying in Vietnam because of the "lack of doctors". Not much is know of this group. They probably came from the East Coast - their label Stone Lady was based in New Jersey, founded by David L. Sheffield, who composed this and most of the songs on their album. The members of the group were Luis Farinas (tenor vocals), Doug Green (lead vocals), Greg Jackson (tenor vocals), and Tony Matthews (bass vocals).
This song also featured on the album "Bring My Buddies Back" (Stone Lady # 1001), the front cover of which has a painting of marching troops in Vietnam.

Capolavoro assoluto, sia dal punto di vista poetico che da quello musicale.
Un testo probabilmente riferito alle vicende personali di Mogol in quel periodo, e tuttavia capace di un afflato universale contro la violenza e la ferocia dilaganti nel mondo, per l'amore universale, non solo dell'uomo e della donna ma dell'essere umano per la Terra e la Natura, di ogni essere umano verso i propri simili e per l'ambiente in cui viviamo.
Capolavoro umiliato da destra, che arrivò a violentare il testo interprentandolo addirittura come nostalgico del Ventennio, e da sinistra, bollato come manifesto di un autore fascistoide dedito ad un borghese riflusso nel privato.
Era semplicemente il Suo Canto Libero, e per questa la propongo, umilmente negli Extra, convinto però che si tratti proprio di una Canzone Contro la Guerra DOCG...

The title referred to several people arrested outside the Democratic Convention in Chicago in August 1968 for inciting riots. Originally eight people stood trial, all high profile activists - Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin from the hippie movement, the Black Panther leader Bobby Seale, political activists Rennie Davis, David Dellinger, and Tom Hayden (married to Jane Fonda . The trial began on 24 September 1969, but soon after the Judge, Julius Hoffman, ordered Bobby Seale to be bound and gagged for contempt of court. He was tried separately, and thus the eight became seven .

The lyrics suggested that large coverage of the Chicago Seven, as well as the "four dead in Ohio" - a reference to the Kent State shootings on 4 May 1970 - was because those involved were white: "nobody seems worried about all the black blood spilled". The song ended with a guitar solo with police siren sound-effects in the background.

La scelta di tujo invece che tuójo (molto più diffuso ai giorni nostri) è dovuta proprio a questo; in molti altri casi, invece, ho deciso di usare termini molto più comuni nel napoletano moderno ma comunque tutti attestati dai dizionari sette e ottocenteschi della lingua. Aggiungo solo che l'ipotesi che la fonte cartacea originaria, da cui JBrummer ha ricavato i testi parziali di queste due versioni di "Vietnam Blues", sia proprio il libro di Samuel Charters è confermata senza ombra di dubbio dal fatto che il disco di Dupree del 1972, dove è contenuto il brano, ha le note sul retro firmate da Sam Charters.

Il ricordo per quanto è successo è sacro e va mantenuto vivo.
Purtroppo c'è anche troppa rettorica e poca gente che abbia il coraggio di dire che cosa accadde veramente in quell'estate del 1992.Non è corretto, ed è fuorviante, continuare a dire che Falcone e Borsellino furono ammazzati dalla mafia. Furono ammazzati ANCHE dalla mafia.
A dispetto di chi chi ci ha governato in questi 28 anni è doveroso continuare a chiedere la verità : Falcone e Borsellino sono stati assassinati dalla Mafia & Stato SPA, società dove lo Stato era rappresentato da alte cariche governative, ministeriali e parlamentari.
Ecco perchè questa classe politica, come quella di ieri, non è più credibile. scusate il giro di parole, ma la verità è che nessuno vuole la verità !!!

Allora... questo è un pezzo straordinario ma c'è un problema. In tutti i siti di lyrics (ad esempio qui o su genius) si trovano solo le parole delle strofe ma non del ritornello tra una strofa e l'altra (io capisco solo "Don't you know it's gonna be alright" ripreso dalla canzone dei Beatles a cui questa risponde. Poi alla fine c'è un pezzo strepitoso (la Part 2 credo) che ho provato a trascrivere ma mi mancano delle parole. Qualcuno mi aiuta?

In Bretagna, la poesia è stata musicata anche dall'amico Gerard Delahaye nel 2001, precisamente nel disco "Guillou pour les intimes". Nell'occasione mi permetto di chiedere: ma perché attribuirla a Léo Ferré quando Rimbaud ha una sua sezione come autore? Oltretutto Ferré in Francia non è stato nemmeno il primo ad interpretarla (credo fosse Yves Montand nel '51 o '52) e probabilmente non è neanche autore della musica...

La tumba del guerrilero
"El poeta trapense del Solentiname" nell'ultima strofa è Ernesto Cardenal (1925-2020).
Il Solentiname è un piccolo arcipelago situato nella parte meridionale del Lago Cocibolca, o Gran Lago Nicaragua. Nel 1966 Cardenal vi fondò una comunità monastica.
La canzone di Carlos Mejía Godoy è ispirata ad una poesia dello stesso Cardenal, intitolata "Epitafio para la tumba de Adolfo Báez Bone" (1961)
Adolfo Báez Bone è stato uno degli ufficiali che nell'aprile del 1954 tentarono di assassinare il dittatore Anastasio Somoza García per avviare un processo democratico. Non ebbero successo, vennero catturati e uccisi e le loro sepolture non vennero mai rivelate.
