The first child is based on a story I heard of a young boy who fled from the Sahel region of West Africa to the North African coast to travel to Europe. To avoid getting arrested, the smugglers who were running the boat designated him the captain. At 15, he would not face criminal conviction so it was 'safer' for him to be in charge of the boat.
The other story is of a European child from a well-off background who has been taken sailing since they were a small child. Now 16, they stand poised to head out to see alone for the first time.
Lampedusa is an Italian island and one of the closest parts of Europe to North Africa

Inspired by the tragic events of the ship full of immigrants which was sunk by people-smugglers killing an estimated 500 people having set sail from the Egyptian port of Damietta in October 2014. "Lampedusa" imagines the journey through the eyes of one of the victims, full of hope, escaping the war torn regimes of the middle-east. The second half of the song depicts the brutal sinking of the ship by traffickers.

Il testo era irreperibile ed è stato trascritto all'ascolto con alcune lacune e dubbi. Chiunque possa aiutare a completarlo è benvenuto.
Nonostante questa canzone abbia ormai quasi trent'anni ed alcune rime possano apparire oggi un po' ingenue e non particolarmente ispirate, bisogna ammettere che gli argomenti sono validissimi e applicabili a quella lontana guerra come a praticamente tutte quelle che sono seguite fino ad oggi.

Insieme a Tres locuras, la canzone fa parte della colonna sonora del film La noche de 12 años del regista Alvaro Brechner.
Le parole sono ispirate a una poesia di Mauricio Rosencof, uno dei guerriglieri tupamaros a cui è dedicato il film, e che rimasero prigionieri 12 anni. Un altro dei prigionieri era Pepe Mujica poi diventato presidente dell'Uruguay.
Mentre era nella cella, Rosencof vide entrare una piccola pima di uccello che passando dalla sua piccola finestra e scrisse questi versi come serie di domande.
En marzo del 2019 hicimos el concierto de despedida con el quinteto de cuerdas en Hong Kong y una tarde decidimos rodar un videoclip de “Plumita” en el mercado de pájaros de la ciudad. This gala, which helped in raising funds for medical assistance to Palestinian children through PCRF, took place on October 13th 2012 in Anaheim, California.
Honored by the invitation, and inspired by the heart-warming humanitarian and medical activities of PCRF, Doc Jazz – who happens to be a surgeon himself, as you probably know – composed a song that pays homage to the Healing Hands that cure Palestinian children who are unable to obtain treatment for their ailments..

Ma si tratta di un falso o comunque di una citazione documentata solo in tempi recenti (intorno agli anni '70, si veda Quote Investigation). Tuttavia sono sicuramente parole efficaci e sono state recentemente riprese dal movimento Fridays for Future e inserite in questa efficace canzone della cantante norvegese Aurora.

Album All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend
The song is about having the animal instinct inside you come to life. Running with them, joining them – the instinct taking over, giving you freedom and making you forget about your human self and all things we humans keep around us in the modern society.
I think humans need to let go a bit more, shake their bodies more often, like the animals do.. It’s a beautiful thing really.
Sometimes when you look at the world, and you see what we’ve done to it, the way many of us hurt the world we live in, innocent animals, even our own kind! And that kind of makes you want to follow the wolves instead. At least for one night.

Tra parentesi: il nome di Joe Strummer, il defunto leader dei Clash -al secolo John Graham Mellor, 1952-2002- deriva proprio da questo: altro legame col rock! Riguardo alla tua pagina sul Gautakvæði:

Oh, dit Lucien l'âne, repassant sur cette chanson à la recherche d'un vers exact, je me rends compte qu'une erreur (au moins) figure dans le premier octain; juste un mot, mais quel mot; il faut dire que cette erreur (d'où est-elle venue ? D'une transcription à une mauvaise oreille ?) est de taille et il suffit d'écouter Léo chanter pour s'en rendre compte.

Zyame Telesin fu un fine letterato di cultura yiddish e poeta del Novecento apprezzato non soltanto in Unione Sovietica. L’unica sua opera reperibile online è un libro di poesie in yiddish pubblicato nel 1980. Purtroppo non abbiamo potuto trovare alcuna traduzione delle sue poesie in rete.
Viene citato nei saggi che trattano del rapporto tra cultura russa e cultura yiddish e nelle monografie di letteratura degli anni ’60.

La ballata parla della rete che ci sta invadendo, fin nelle case, fino in bagno e che, se usciremo dalla tragedia che stiamo vivendo, ci trasporterà definitivamente dal reale al virtuale da cui non si tornerà più indietro, da dove probabilmente sarà molto più facile controllarci,seguirci, monitorarci con le app, in-formarci, automatizzarci, cinesizzarci…vedi il terribile sfruttamento del lavoro in Cina, in Africa come anche presso le fabbriche cinesidella Apple e dell’iPhone che molti di noi utilizzano senza saperne le origini.
Alla fine me la prendo proprio con questa tecnocrazia (in gran parte e, per molti aspetti,di origine cinese come la pandemia) e non con la tecnologia che, al contrario, in sé potrebbe essere usatacome strumento di grande libertà, creatività e proiezione verso un futuro migliore.

Alla fine me la prendo proprio con questa tecnocrazia (in gran parte e, per molti aspetti,di origine cinese come la pandemia) e non con la tecnologia che, al contrario, in sé potrebbe essere usatacome strumento di grande libertà, creatività e proiezione verso un futuro migliore.

Adattamento italiano de "Gesang vom lusitanischen Popanz: Nacht mit Gästen", opera teatrale del drammaturgo tedesco Peter Weiss, 1965-1967, tradotta originariamente nel 1968 da Giovanni Magnarelli e pubblicata da Einaudi con il titolo "Cantata del fantoccio lusitano: notte con ospiti".
Nell'adattamento di Strehler lo spettacolo assunse il titolo de "Cantata di un mostro lusitano"

Il mostro lusitano è il Portogallo colonialista, impersonato da Diogo Cão, o Diégo Caô (1450-1486), esploratore cui si deve l'inizio della colonizzazione portoghese dei paesi dell'Africa occidentale, l'Angola in particolare, una dominazione feroce – come peraltro tutte le altre altre - che si sarebbe conclusa solo mezzo millennio più tardi, con la Rivoluzione del 1974.
