León Felipe, nato Felipe Camino Galicia de la Rosa (1884-1968), è stato uno dei più importanti poeti spagnoli, dagli anni 20 fino alla sua morte nel 1968. Il suo primo libro di poesie, Versos y oraciones del caminante è stato pubblicato nel 1920. Felipe non può essere classificato in nessuna delle principali correnti poetiche degli anni '20: né un avanguardista, né un classicista o un rivoluzionario, ma un poeta con poesie semplici in versi liberi, forse paragonabile ad Antonio Machado.

Successivamente la guerra e l'esilio fecero di lui uno dei più ardenti poeti rivoluzionari. Questa poesia appartiene al suo primo libro: la figura del Don Chisciotte è stata usata varie volte da León Felipe, come simbolo del vero spirito spagnolo, e come un alter ego di se stesso:... (Continues)

Before misinterpretation sets in, I thought it best that I clarify the intent of this song. It is simply a cautionary angle that we keep our eyes on the homefront, our government. Erosion of freedoms are set from within and failure to stay vigilant, ever watchful for all, becomes a failure for each of us at some point or another.
