This track is about the flood in 1927 that set the precedent for the literal abandonment of African-Americans by the U.S. Government. Blacks were rounded up to work on the levy while White families were rescued.
I was six back in 27 my father was that reverend known for pulling fire out of heaven and we’d eat blessings with families hard up for collections which included us cause mom barely got paid for lessons but we’d keep pressing, a sharecropper’s life is stressing especially when you’ve got seven other sisters and brethren and the ones getting richer off my family’s sweating always seemed to use their pale complexion as a weapon but that didn’t set in for me until that river threatened to wash us all away like Noah back to the beginning. [oh] they all knew it was gone-come, cause delta was to blues what crackers was to-guns [oh] planters knew we was gone run so they rounded up everyone black under the sun - coppers spotted sharecroppers on stroll and they made’em work the levee hard for no dough ... Voici donc une chanson de Léo Campion... Elle s'intitule Sept ans de malheur... Une chanson nettement antimilitaire....
Moi, dit Lucien l'âne en riant comme seul peut le faire un âne venu d'orient (du Moyen-Orient), j'avais toujours cru que cette chanson était de Boris Vian. Voilà que tu me dis qu'elle est de Léo Campion... Je le croyais objecteur de conscience, anarchiste, barbu et tout et tout... Il était vraiment drôle.
C'est bien de lui qu'il s'agit. Et à mon sens, il ne détonne pas avec Boris Vian... Il ne détonnait pas plus auprès de Pierre Dac... Cela dit, il a découvert l'anarchie à Bruxelles, chez un libraire appelé très opportunément Dieu. Car, à Bruxelles, Dieu était non seulement libraire, mais aussi anarchiste. Et... (Continues)

Una canzone che parla di alcune schifezze occorse all’America durante l’era Reagan (e la prima parte di quella Bush senior), dal faraonico e fallimentare progetto “Star Wars” allo scandalo Iran-Contra e la guerra “segreta” contro il Nicaragua sandinista finanziata con traffici di armi e di droga, dai test nucleari sulla superficie e nel sottosuolo del Nevada, proseguiti fini al 1992, dalla questione della “deregulation” dei media, trasformatasi in breve in una “concentration” nelle mani di pochi, con quel che ne consegue in termini di libertà ad informare e ad essere informati, fino al lungo periodo di crisi e recessione del mercato finanziario ed immobiliare che si registrò negli USA a cavallo degli anni 80 e 90 a causa del mancato controllo federale sui prestiti e sulla miriade di società finanziarie, una bolla che ad un certo punto esplose (nota come “the savings and loan crisis”) producendo un danno di quasi 90 miliardi dollari e travolgendo un sacco di gente…

L'anno precedente il giovanissimo, quasi esordiente Samuele Bersani l'aveva interpretata dal vivo nel corso del tour di Lucio Dalla, il suo scopritore, il quale - generosamente - aveva inserito "Il mostro" nel suo album "Amen" e nella versione dello stesso Samuele, come omaggio del maestro al suo giovane allievo.
