The band wrote the lyrics about the Iraq war after conducting research and found that "a lot of stuff does not add up", according to Flynn, which angered the band. Machine Head's debut album, Burn My Eyes, featured a similar song titled "A Thousand Lies" which dealt with the Gulf War.
Robb Flynn said "Clenching the Fists of Dissent" was one of the most difficult song to construct: He attributed the difficulty to the amount of tracks; the introduction of the song has 90, including multiple three-part harmony with two guitars, 20 tracks of snare drum, four tracks of kick drum, and military marching cymbals. The song continues with five electric guitars, three acoustic guitars and two bass guitars...

Hamada Ben Amor, in arte El Général, rapper tunisino di 22 anni originario di Sfax, è ormai famoso ed amatissimo nel suo paese, la Tunisia infiammata dalle proteste di questi giorni e bagnata dal sangue del suo popolo, affamato da oltre due decenni ed oggi massacrato per strada dalla polizia del dittatore Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali.
Nelle sue canzoni, infatti, El Général ha avuto come pochi il coraggio di attaccare direttamente il presidente/dittatore/padre-padrone Ben Ali, lo stesso che compare all’inizio del video di questa رئيس البلاد (Rayes Le Bled) intento, con aria molto poco rassicurante, ad estorcere inutilmente una qualche parola ad uno spaventato scolaro (il dittatore chiede – significativamente - al bimbo: “Perché non sei tranquillo? Je fais partie de la nouvelle génération qui a vécu en Tunisie sous le règne absolu de Ben Ali.
Au lycée, et au collège, on a toujours peur de parler politique : “Il y a des rapporteurs partout” qu’on nous dit. Personne n’ose en discuter en public. Tout le monde se méfie. Votre voisin, votre ami, votre épicier, est un rapporteur de Ben Ali, voulez-vous être emmené de force vous ou votre père vers un lieu indéfini, un soir à 4h du mat ?
On grandit avec cette peur de s’engager, et on poursuit nos études, nos sorties, nos soirées, sans se soucier de la politique.
Aux années lycées, on commence à connaître les méandres de la famille royale, et on entends des histoires ici et là, sur tel proche de Leila qui a pris le contrôle d’un industrie, qui s’est approprié le terrain d’une autre personne, ou qui traitait avec la mafia italienne.

E’ una frase tratta da uno degli ultimissimi articoli sui fatti di Tunisi, in questo caso pubblicato da La Repubblica. Non che la Repubblica faccia peggio di altri organi di informazione.
Dalla televisione ai quotidiani sembra che per i media italiani la falsa e fuorviante definizione di “rivolta del pane” sia la più gettonata. Non so se per risparmiare sui tempi televisivi, accomunando così due notizie e due paesi nettamente distinti, se per disinformazione causata da ignoranza o se per una disinformazione più studiata, che associare la parola dittatura al governo di Ben Ali potrebbe essere cosa non gradita. I wrote "Peace (For John Lennon)" in memory of the great John Lennon".
"I never got to met him but I always felt that he was like a friend to me through his music.
John changed the way that world was by being himself and standing up for what he believed in.
His music was melodic and the words were always thought provoking".

"I started playing the mandolin about 2 years ago. After learning some basics on the instrument, I wrote the chords to "Tonight" on the mandolin. The lyrics came from thinking about what is going on with the world around me recently. We could make changes to this world to make it a better place if we only try".

Canzone scritta da Forbert all’indomani dell’ennesimo disastro ecologico causato da una superpetroliera, la Amoco Cadiz (di proprietà statunitense ma battente bandiera liberiana), che il 16 marzo 1978 incappò in una tempesta al largo di Finistère, si spezzò in due e riversò in mare 250.000 m3 di greggio.
Nel testo si fa anche riferimento ad altri incidenti del genere, quello della Argo Merchant, una bagnarola classe 1953 che nel 1976 s’inabissò al largo delle isole Nantucket in Massachussetts versando in mare circa 29 milioni di litri di greggio, e quello della Corinthos che nel 1975, a seguito di una collisione mentre si trovava in un terminal della British Petroleum nella baia del Delaware in Pennsylvania, sversò tra fiume e mare gran parte del suo carico di circa 50 milioni di litri di “crude oil”…

Voilà une chanson qui raconte la grève des mineurs de la Ruhr de la fin 1904 – début 1905 – 200.000 mineurs en grève, le poumon ou le moteur industriel de l'Allemagne à l'arrêt... Comment faire de l'acier sans charbon ? Cette grève a lieu au même moment où en Russie, une grève générale vient, elle aussi, bousculer l'Empire du tsar, alors en guerre contre le Japon. Juste un détail, cette grève des mineurs de la Ruhr est généralement située en 1905... Mais on voit dans la canzone qu'elle commence juste en fin d'année – à Noël. Cela dit, ce n'est pas... Comment faire de l'acier sans charbon ? Cette grève a lieu au même moment où en Russie, une grève générale vient, elle aussi, bousculer l'Empire du tsar, alors en guerre contre le Japon. After 9/11 there was a lot of outrage over the loss of life.
In the early hours of Dec. 3, 1984, gas leaked from a plant in Bhopal, India, owned and operated by Union Carbide. The state government reported that approximately 3,800 persons died, 40 persons experienced permanent total disability, and 2,680 persons experienced permanent partial disability.
There were no wars initiated after this incident, in fact few Americans knew or cared.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has warned that his country faces a famine worse than that of 1984 which killed nearly one million people and sparked a big international relief effort.
Americans are so fortunate and could show much more compassion for other countries pain. Our suffering just doesn't compare to what the rest of the world experiences.

As 2011 begins this song celebrates the fact that life still exists on earth, October 1962 a crisis almost reached the point of no return, a stand off between Kennedy and Khrushchev introduced a new phrase "Three minutes to worlds end"
At the end of World War 2 "Little Boy", the first atomic bomb had been unleashed on Japan, and so began the start of the Cold War, by the sixties people started to build underground shelters in the futile hope that after a couple of weeks the radiation that would settle on the land and kill all life forms would somehow become tolerable, thank God that no one pushed the button that October in 1962 !

Cette fois encore, Lucien l'âne mon ami, nous allons à la mer et même, plus exactement, sous la mer. C'est une chanson qui relate l’histoire des sous-marins allemands (Unterseeboote) et cela, à partir d'un événement de l'année 1906 : la livraison à la Marine Impériale du premier sous-marin allemand : le U 1 (Unterseeboot 1), ainsi nommé en bonne logique et le suivant, c'est assez farce dans un site de chanson s'appellera : U2, et ainsi de suite, d'où, le et cætera.
