The first stanza is a poem written for Danish Amnesty International by Halfdan Rasmussen. The lyrics of the rest of the song are Roger's response to a newspaper article about the story of a Serbian soldier who helped an Albanian woman lying wounded in a burned-out building.
Halfdan Rasmussen (January 29, 1915 in Copenhagen – March 2, 2002) was a Danish poet. He was known for his nonsensical children's verse and his serious adult writings about social issues and human rights.
Rasmussen was a resistance fighter during the German occupation He became very well known and respected as a poet, nearly becoming a national poet of Denmark. “This is one of two existing versions of this idea, both written by brothers.
Luis Valdez is the director of the Teatro Campesino, a marvelous people's theatre which came out of the California grape strike. His brother Danny was a young musician trying to make it in the big city, who quit and joined the Teatro when he saw how important this cultural extension of the strike could be to his people.
Danny wrote this song and then Luis wrote another of the same theme in Spanish, to show how empty the idea of "making it" in the Army or in any phase of present-day American life today could be. “This is one of two existing versions of this idea, both written by brothers.
Luis Valdez is the director of the Teatro Campesino, a marvelous people's theatre which came out of the California grape strike. His brother Danny was a young musician trying to make it in the big city, who quit and joined the Teatro when he saw how important this cultural extension of the strike could be to his people.
Danny wrote this song and then Luis wrote another of the same theme in Spanish, to show how empty the idea of "making it" in the Army or in any phase of present-day American life today could be. Al Dievel (La marcia del Diavolo)
Notre chanson est dédiée à Germano Nicolini, dit « le commandant Diable », d'abord commandant partisan et ensuite, immédiatement après al guerre, maire communiste de Correggio (RE). En 1947, Nicoloni fut accusé, en même temps qu'Elio Ferretti et Antonio Prodi, de l'homicide de don Umberto Pessina, survenu en juin 1946, Accusation totalement infondée car non seulement les trois étaient étrangers à l'affaire, mais les vrais assassins avaient déjà avoué. Malgré cela, sur pression de l'évêque Beniamino Socche, ils furent condamnés tous les trois à 22 ans de prison, par le moyen d'une dénonciation extorquée, par les carabiniers, au moyen de la torture à un témoin. « Al Dievel » (Le Diable) passa dix ans en prison, à cause de l'hostilité, y compris du PCI lui-même. En 1990, le procès fut rouvert et en 1994, le cas fut définitivement conclu par l'acquittement des trois innocents.

Mi interessa parecchio la questione nordirlandese, e quando ci son stato mi sono letteralmente innamorato della vista del Bogside dalle mura medievali di Derry.
Però...però non so, mi suona stonato mettere una canzone come "Bogside Volunteers" in un sito che si chiama ANTIWAR SONGS che proclama "Antiwar songs is a collection of pacifist and antimilitarist songs from all over the world and of any time, based on free contributions by readers and collaborators. This is why we have chosen a Database form for this website.".
Insomma...questa è una glorificazione di una battaglia, per quanto giunta dalla gente e non da soldati di ordinanza.

Canzone popolare armena raccolta da Komitas Vardapet.
Non si sa esattamente che cosa significhi Dle yaman; sicuramente non è armeno. In arabo, Yaman è il nome dello Yemen: una melodia (e una storia) di derivazione araba? Yaman è anche il nome di una città dell'Iran; ma l'ambientazione, persino con il monte Ararat, è armena. Si tratta, probabilmente, della canzone popolare più nota nell'intera lingua armena.
E' una delle centinaia di canzoni popolari raccolte da Komitas Vardapet (o Vardabet), ovvero "Padre Komitas" dato che vardapet è un titolo religioso della chiesa armena, di cui egli era sacerdote. Padre Komitas, musicista di valore, la rielaborò affinché potesse essere eseguita e conosciuta da tutti gli armeni. Adaptation libre de la poésie homonyme de Stefanno Benni in « Ballate » ed. Feltrinelli
En septembre 1992, passant par le stand de Rinascita à la Fête de l'Unità de Reggio Emilia, il nous est arrivé d'entendre lue à haute voix cette poésie de Stefano Benni. En lisant la quatrième de couverture du livre, nous avons décidé de la mettre en musique; en est née cette chanson au son pour nous insolitement méditerranéen. Nous avons fait entendre ce morceau au poète en personne et nous avons reçu sa bénédiction. Encore merci Stefano.
Dans « Combat Folk » et « Riportando tutto a casa » la voix est celle d'Albertone Morselli, tandis que dans « Raccolti », c'est celle de Cisco.
Le « campionamento » musical est une danse traditionnelle kosovare « Vallenga Gjakova ».

Venturi, grazie per la lettura delle sue belle pagine; mi interessa il canto da lei riportato che è diverso da quello che conosco di Dodi Moscati, parla di Napoli e non di Piazza Piattellina a Firenze; l'ultima strofa, come nella versione di Giovanna Marini, stacca nettamente dal resto del canto, che conoscevo perché cantato da mia madre (classe 1911, provenienza Casentino). Dilemma: il canto è di provenienza fiorentina o napoletana?
