The Ludlow Massacre
From en.wikipedia
The Ludlow massacre pertains to the violent deaths of 20 people during an attack by the Colorado National Guard on a tent colony of 1,200 striking coal miners and their families at Ludlow, Colorado in the U.S. on April 20, 1914. These deaths occurred after a day-long fight between strikers and the Guard. Two women, twelve children, six miners and union officials and one National Guardsman were killed. In response, the miners armed themselves and attacked dozens of mines, destroying property and engaging in several skirmishes with the Colorado National Guard.
This was the bloodiest event in the 14-month 1913-1914 southern Colorado Coal Strike. The strike was organized by the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) against coal mining companies in Colorado. The three biggest mining... (Continues)

Why we lie
I am Dean Omori, Artist and father of two little boys. This whole thing is dedicated to the art of protest and why it is that we as people seem unable to raise adequate concerns to the reasons we are at war. How easily today we roll over, how easily we accept what is so obvioulsy wrong at the behest of those who control us and at the same time appear to have so little respect for our voice. How simply we accept what our political figures are forcing us into, resigned to the notion that a democracy runs largely on our leathargy and the superiority of the few. We as a nation are blooded in a war and its atrocities in the name of peace and god and beneath the intellectual radars of politicians hidden agendas. Yet I think it is precisely when we believe we as people are powerless to act... (Continues)

Baguala significa "selvaggio" in lingua quechua.
(Continues)

Pride (In the Name of Love)

Beh, Venturik... buon compleanno!

[...]One of the songs, Gong Fai Sooi Yuet [Glorious Years], is about racism and the struggle of Nelson Mandela in South Africa. The song, at the time, was a fresh breath of air in the midst of saccharin sweet love songs that were dominating the Hong Kong music scene. Wong Ka Kui won the best lyrics award in the Hong Kong Grammy-equivalent award ceremony. The guitar solo opening for the song paints the loneliness of Mandela's struggle. The guitar solo went on to be one of the most recognizable electric guitar rift in Hong Kong rock music.

Album: Cruel Crazy Beautiful World

The Holidays Are Here (And We're Still At War). Perché in guerra ci siamo sempre tutti quanti. (Continues)

This is not a history lesson. We're not historians. We're songwriters. And anyway... how the hell is anybody going to explain the systematic state sponsored slaughter of close to a million people with a handful of songs? We're not.
Truth is, there is no explanation for the Rwandan genocide. What there is in abundance, however, is ignorance. If these songs make just one person dig a little deeper, then we've made our money back, so to speak. We've touched upon specific pieces of the horror, but don't even pretend to be able to understand it from the Rwandan point of view. We're observers from afar. Interested, heartbroken observers....but merely observers nonetheless. Please...

Please... (Continues)

Interview of Vietnam War veteran Rich Latrelle by Jane Pauley (NBC-TV).
Rich Latrelle was deeply affected by his 1st kill:
a Viet Cong soldier, whose photo of the man & his daughter Rich kept in his wallet for the next 30 years.
He left the photo at the Vietnam War Memorial Wall in Washington, DC, thinking he had achieved completion.
Among the thousands of mementos left at the Wall each year, the curator of the museum chose that photo for the cover of a book written about those objects.
Vet friends brought the book to Rich's attention.
Other acquaintences arranged for his meeting the daughter in her village in Vietnam.
Not knowing what to expect, he hesitantly approached her home, only to be greeted warmly with acceptance, honor, forgiveness & compassion.

Non ne so abbastanza.
