The section dedicated to the classic album "The Wall" by Pink Floyd is now complete. You can find an introduction to the album in Another Brick In The Wall Part I.
Obviously, due to the topic of this website, we focused on the "first brick in the wall", the first tragic experience which leaves its mark on the protagonist's life: his father's death in Anzio during World War II (an autobiographical reference for Roger Waters who some years before had written Us And Them, related to the same underlying story)

Yes Sir, I Will

Yes Sir, I Will
THE PIG'S HEAD CONTROVERSY. THE AESTHETICS OF ANARCHY
http://members.tripod.com/parolesdunpu...

December 7th. 1977. 5.30pm.
The old man weeps. Crusty eyes. His nose is snot-running. His child writhes on the pavement. The rubber bullet has glanced off the child's eye. The right eye. Cobwebs of blood form on the white of eye.
"Right lads, wait until you see the white of eye. Wait lads, wait."
The cobwebs pass into the iris. The cobwebs pass into the pupil. The cobweb pass into the retina. A darkness. Half the brain is cast in darkness. Dusk. Half darkness. The soldiers chuckle on the cold street corners. The wind moves stealthily through the streets. It has no motive. The guns are still warm, stealthily through the streets, slung on exaggerated shoulders.
The child paws helplessly at the blinded eye. Searches light. Nothing but the cold stain of dusk. Pre-birth twice.

Da / From / De: paroles.net

The following is the version as originally performed by Marcel Mouloudji, with all the changes Boris Vian and Marcel Mouloudji themselves had been constantly making to get through the censorship imposed by French authorities; it was all in vain. So, the following lyrics are exactly what the station “Europe 1” did broadcast on March 4, 1954, the historic date on which the song was transmitted... (Continues)

My Country 'Tis Of Thy People You're Dying

My Country 'Tis Of Thy People You're Dying
(1966)

"My Country 'Tis of Thy People You're Dying" is Buffy Sainte-Marie's statement-in-song about Indian affairs.

"My point in the song is that the American people haven't been given a fair share at learning the true history of the American Indian. They know neither the state of poverty that the Indians are in now nor how it got to be that way. I try to tell the side of the story that's left out of the history books, that can only be found in the documents, the archives and in the memories of the Indians themselves."

Melanie performed at Woodstock in 1969. During her performance, for the first time in pop history, candles were lit (and thus began a tradition). Inspired by this experience Melanie wrote "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)" which was a hit all over Europe and the USA.

The Bravest

The Bravest
(Written 9/24/01)

«As I sat and watched the horror unfold on 9/11, I could smell the acrid smoke drifting south from the Pentagon. There was a never ending line of cars heading away from Washington. With the rest of the world I watched the towers come down and among the victims were 343 New York firemen. I'll never be able to look at a fireman or woman again without knowing that he or she would lay down their lives for me without ever knowing my name. We can never thank them enough.»
