Per il 60° anniversario dello sganciamento della prima bomba atomica sulla città giapponese di Hiroshima presentiamo qui l'annuale "Dichiarazione di pace" pronunciata nel 2004 dal sindaco di Hiroshima, Akiba Tadatoshi. Il testo è presentato nell'originale giapponese e in traduzione inglese.
On the day of the 60th anniversary of the first H-bombing on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, we are pleased to include in our database collection of antiwar and peace songs the yearly "Peace Declaration" delivered in 2004 by the Mayor of Hiroshima, Akiba Tadatoshi. The text appears in the original language and in an English translation.

In 1991, armed intervention began in the Republic of Croatia by the Yugoslav People's Army which very soon turned into outright war, with many victims and severe devastation. New songs were born in such circumstances. In Croatia, old traditional religious songs were adapted to the situation, particularly those in which the Mother of God was asked for help and protection from the tribulations of the war. One of them, Majko mila, Majko draga (Sweet Mother, Dear Mother) stands out with its clear message.
The direct way in which the text of this song reflects the state of war in Croatia in the autumn and spring of 1991 calls for the presentation of all the verses of that text. [The second] verse is given in two versions, the first (a) as it was sung in Zagreb, and the second (b) as it was sung in Nova Kapela [a town near to the war zone around Nova Gradiška] - which is an indicator of the current... Scritto in onore di Glenmor, grande "bardo" della canzone bretone e autore di molti dei testi delle prime canzoni di un altro "mostro sacro", Gilles Servat, "Before Landing" è un'esattissima ricostruzione, in forma di canzoni, dell'intera storia della Bretagna. Un album importantissimo che ha avuto un'influenza enorme, non solo dal punto di vista musicale. Si può tranquillamente affermare che Alan Stivell, con le sue canzoni e la sua musica, oltre ad aver influenzato direttamente tutti coloro che dopo di lui hanno sia attinto al ricchissimo patrimonio culturale e musicale bretone, sia hanno (ri)cominciato a comporre opere originali in lingua bretone, ha segnato la rinascita della Bretagna come identità culturale e linguistica.

Tratta dal celebre album dal vivo "E Dulenn" ("A Dublino"), registrato durante uno storico concerto nella capitale irlandese, Digor eo an hent (in bretone: "La strada è aperta") è una delle principali canzoni di Stivell dove si preconizza una Bretagna indipendente. Ma un'indipendenza espressa pienamente come in Délivrance, pacifica, antimilitarista, socialista.
Nota. La grafia del testo bretone è stata riportata a quella unificata attualmente in uso ufficiale.

Although there should be no serious obstacles to finding the name of the author of the text and the tune of that song, as for any other popular song - Croatian or non-Croatian - the writer still has not been succesful in so doing. In any case, the text speaks of peace and love, just what people yearn for, and is sung to an emotional, even somewhat sentimental, melody and there were good reasons for its ready general acceptance.
Some years later, in the first half of 1990, when units of what was then the Yugoslav People's Army tried to enter Western Herzegovina, which is inhabited by ethnic Croatian, television journalists shot impressive scenes in which the local people blocked the way of the advancing army with a living wall made up of their bodies. Una canzone dedicata alla fulgida figura dell'ex "presidente" (=zar) russo Boris Yeltsin (il cui cognome è traslitterato in innumerevoli modi: Yeltsin, Jeltsin, Ielzin, El'cin, Yeltsine...la grafia russa nell'alfabeto cirillico è Бopис Eльцин.) A Yeltsin è succeduto, come tutti sanno, Vladimir Putin. La canzone fu registrata il 31 luglio 1991; fu trasmessa dalla televisione croata il 4 agosto, dalla CNN il 5 agosto, dalla BBC il 7 agosto, e in seguito da Rai1, Rai2, Rai3, ZDF, ORF, Channel 5, Soviet State TV, Australian TV, venendo trasmessa in 31 paesi in tutto il mondo. Proprio perché era rivolta al resto del mondo, il testo era in inglese.
Divenne l'inno delle madri dei soldati nei movimenti "Chain of Love" e "Mothers for peace".
Pur riportando questa canzone tra le canzoni contro la guerra, vanno sottolineate alcune incongruenze nel suo blando (e insincero) messaggio pacifista.

I failed history.
The most palatable history of the world I ever read is only 120 pages long and part of Buckminster Fuller’s book, “Critical Path”. The robber baron scumbags are still there but some attempt is made to explain their pathology and why they’re still around today.

With a "Mission Accomplished" banner as a backdrop, Commander Dubya declared an end to the Iraq war.
Months later, as the death toll mounted, the White House claimed that he had actually declared an end to "major combat operations". The White House also made a feeble attempt to distance itself from the "Mission Accomplished" banner.

Despite the mellow music, this might be our harshest indictment thus far of our unelected puppet president.
The first two verses focus upon the notion that Bush really didn't care and allowed 9/11 to occur.
Next, we discuss the fact that Bush took political advantage, by launching an illegal war that looks and feels like Vietnam. Slimey? Of course! But the truth is hidden in plain sight. We also chastise the mainstream media for their complicity, particularly CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC.
"Last but far from least, we lambast Bush for being a so-called "man of God", blindly pushing forward with his Divinely-sanctioned holy war, while steadfastly refusing to apologize for anything." - Compassionate Conservatives.

Un riparo per noi
Una vecchia canzone dei Nomadi versione italiana di “With a girl like you” dei Troggs del 1966, retro del 45 giri “Noi non ci saremo” che è stato pubblicato anche con un altro retro, “Spegni quelle luce”.
Un testo un po’ datato al quale ho tolto i molti "la la la" tipici dell’epoca e che parla di una specie di corsa di un ragazzo e una ragazza sotto la pioggia, banale fino alle ultime strofe, dove la questione della guerra nucleare di quegli anni viene fuori a riproporre la paura dell’atomica allora ben presente e oggi forse un po’ meno, perché le paure sono diventate altre, anche se le bombe atomiche ci sono sempre, sono molte di più e sono state enormemente potenziate rispetto a quelle degli anni sessanta.

Si tratta di una ballata legata al tragico episodio avvenuto in Iraq, a Ramadi, nel maggio del 2004, in cui un marines americano sganciò un missile su un gruppo di persone che festeggiavano un matrimonio, scambiando i giochi di fuoco del festeggiamento per attacco bellico. I morti sul colpo furono 45 di cui molti bambini.
