Sabiá
Lady Day / Songs Of The Sabiá (1970)
In 1969, Frank Sinatra and Jobim recorded "The Song of the Sabiá" for an album entitled Sinatra-Jobim, but at the last minute, Sinatra stopped release of the record. Seven of the ten songs from those sessions were released in 1971 as Side A of Sinatra & Company, but "The Song of the Sabiá" was not used. It appeared as the B-side of Sinatra's single “Lady Day” (Reprise 0970) in December 1970, and was later included on Portrait of Sinatra – Forty Songs from the Life of a Man (1977), Sinatra–Jobim Sessions (1979) and Sinatra/Jobim: The Complete Reprise Recordings (2010).

Chcemy być sobą
"The song was recorded in 1981, during the dark years of the communist rule, just before the introduction of martial law in Poland on the 13th December 1981 (see more here: Martial law in Poland - Wikipedia). This song was one of the most important protest songs all through the 1980s; it's worth noting that, at concerts, the title phrase "Chcemy być sobą" ("We want to be ourselves") was often changed into "Chcemy bić ZOMO" ("We want to beat up ZOMO" - see here for the explanation on ZOMO)

The Great War
2014 was the centenary of the “war to end all wars” and I had the idea to compose some music around the subject. Rather than just release one song or EP in 2014, I decided it would be an interesting concept to release one song a year, from 2014 to 2018 that, combined, would form one (longer) piece of music.
In 2018 Bad Elephant approached me with the idea of releasing the project as a full album and this opportunity has allowed me to re-record and reinterpret the songs I had written since 2014 and also include some additional ones, the end result being The Great War album.

Mandela
Lyrics Translate
“The gas stations in Rome close at 20:00. In some there is self-service, but in most they are taken over by Indian and Pakistani workers. This song is born from this type of meeting. Me having only a Moped, I mostly get gas at night and I always meet these guys. I liked sharing that some of them are sympathetic, nice. Seeing that now there's always the tale of invasion and of the fact that they're stealing our jobs, I made a song about one who is very kind and who woos me in his own way. He doesn't bother me, but rather he tells me: “How cute you are, I would throw you in a pan because you seem to me like an apple” and one remembers his flavours/scents of curry and cinnamon.”

(Continues)

Fuck Your Fear
(2005)
album: Acetylene
album: Acetylene
A scathing, furious attack on the Bush government and its foreign policy, it opens up with 'Fuck Your Fear', a slow grinding barrage of distorted, hazy guitars and pounding, tolling-bell drums. Eckman and Torgerson's joint vocals describe a world teetering on the abyss in which the 60's hippy dream has long gone rotten ("Dead folksingers lie in state/Acolytes scrape off their plates/The message falls onto deaf ears") and death comes quickly and in abundance ("New gravediggers born each day").

Child of Vietnam
1970
Roger Thwaites, Australian contemporary folk artist, composed and released the song "Child of Vietnam" (Columbia (EMI) # SOEX-9698), which started off with gunfire sound-effects, and took an anti-war perspective. The back of the LP said: "Child of Vietnam is the story of a little girl and a soldier in the land of tears, your land, child of Vietnam". Narrated from the perspective of the soldier, who said "how can I help her", as the child rests "on the bloody ground", and the "streets full of pain". It concluded by calling on people to "help...around the world" to stop the war and suffering, for the "helpless children of Vietnam".
