America
"The track used for the Allen Ginsberg poem 'America' was one of the first recordings we made in Danesmote. It was given the working title 'Drunk Chicken.' It's all Eno in truth, Brian started the improvisation and although we were all willing it never quite got past its Enoesque origins. It's clear from this track that we were still searching for clues, looking for the end of the thread." - The Edge, The Joshua Tree 2007

(Continues)

Il pianto dell'asino
In the silence of the night, in the man’s conspiratorial dark, a cry rips the sleepy eardrum of a sleeping city. We come from a little city in Milan northern suburs, that at morning shows her smiling, right-thinking face and hides at night, leaving space to the bray of a donkey, that really almost all the evenings crosses the streets of the village, as if he screams in pain for his conditions, and those of the world in which he lives. Our city is also home of many workers, being this an industrial area, a working class pushed in search of gentrification, of the refusal of her being, bombed by the biggest shopping centers in the world and by the filths of EXPO, a working class made tame and domesticated by XXI century’s medieval moralism. Donkey metaphorically represents this class, Our class, because they think that we are stupid, stubborn, boorish pack animals, useful for work and for being beaten by masters at any attempt of revolt.

They Don't Care About Us
[1995]
Parole e musica di Michael Jackson
Nell'album “HIStory” (per esteso “HIStory: Past, Present and Future - Book I”
English translation reproduced from This page
This song was written in April of 1945 by Zbigniew Koczanowicz at Falkensee, a sub-camp of Sachsenhausen where he was interned (after Auschwitz and Gross-Rosen). The song was also known as "Marsz Zbyska Koczanowicza" (after the lyricist). It apparently had some association with the clandestine "camp patrol" that was formed by the remaining prisoners of Falkensee in 1945, among whom was Koczanowicz. This "patrol" supposedly knew of the German arsenal of secret weapons and took arms from it to defend themselves against the prison guards. According to Aleksander Kulisiewicz, the melody to "Pieśń Obozowa" was adapted by Koczanowicz from a nineteenth century Russian folksong. Koczanowicz's poem was later set to an original melody by his fellow prisoner, Ludwik Żuk-Skarszewski.

Night Flight
[1971]
(Continues)
