Con marktlied si indica, nella tradizione fiamminga, una canzone cantata da cantastorie o cantanti popolari durante fiere, mercati, ecc. Come autore della musica viene indicato “R. Merck toch hoe sterck is een van de bekendste Nederlandse geuzenliederen. Het is bekend geworden door de Nederlandtsche Gedenck-clanck uit 1626 van Adriaen Valerius. De melodie van 'Merck toch hoe sterck' komt van een Italiaanse dansmelodie en is dus niet gecomponeerd door Valerius. Deze ontdekking is recent gedaan door de Bergenaar Ben Goossens. De melodie wordt gebruikt als pauzeteken van Radio Nederland Wereldomroep.
Dit lied, ook wel Het Beleg van Berg-op-Zoom genoemd, is het overwinningslied over het ontzetten, op 2 oktober 1622, van Don Louis de Velasco en zijn troepen na een drie maanden durend beleg.
Het lied is het volkslied van de stad Bergen op Zoom. Het inspireerde verschillende Nederlandse en Belgische componisten, onder wie Henk Badings, Cor Kee, Jan Zwart, Staf Nees en Paul Christiaan van Westering, tot het schrijven van variaties.

Lennaert Nijgh (1945-2002) è stato molto celebre nei paesi di lingua neerlandese per essere stato il paroliere di Boudewijn De Groot. Liesbeth Dorathea List, nata a Bandung in Indonesia nel 1941 e morta nel 2020, è stata un'attrice e cantante nota anche per avere interpretato in neerlandese le canzoni di Jacques Brel (a lungo è stata la compagna dello scrittore e poeta Cees Nooteboom, più volte candidato al Premio Nobel per la letteratura). L'album di canzoni di Theodorakis tradotte dal greco è del 1967; le versioni neerlandesi della Trilogia di Mauthausen risultano essere, cronologicamente, tra le prime in qualsiasi lingua (l'album, oltre al “ciclo di Mauthausen”, comprende traduzioni da Ένας όμηρος). La versione neerlandese (olandese/fiamminga) tratta dal sito dello Strijdkoor Kontrarie, del cui repertorio fa parte (nell'originale spagnolo).
Guajira Guantanamera van Joseíto Fernandez (1908-1979). Vroeger bekend als de Koning van de Melodie en bekend geworden met een van zijn liederen “Guajira Guantanamera”. Deze wereldhit werd ontelbare malen bewerkt en herwerkt. Handelde eigenlijk over een mooie inwoonster van Guantánamo maar door vele aanpassingen blijft van de guajira in de tekst geen spoor meer over. Later kwam Julían Orbón op het idee als tekst de Versos Sencillos (eenvoudige verzen) van José Martí te gebruiken.

5a. De moorsoldaten: Dutch version
In Börgermoor in Emsland dicht bij de Nederlandse grens werden onder meer politieke tegenstanders van het naziregime, Jehova's getuigen en homoseksuelen gevangengezet. Met eenvoudig gereedschap, zoals een spade, moest men in het veen (Duits: Moor) kanalen graven en ontginningswerkzaamheden verrichten.
Om de lange werkdagen wat te verlichten zong men liederen die soms zelf gemaakt werden. Mijnwerker Hans Esser en acteur Wolfgang Langhoff waren verantwoordelijk voor de tekst van het lied over de dwangarbeid in het veen, terwijl Rudi Goguel de melodie schreef. Het lied sprak de gevangenen direct aan omdat het hun gezamenlijk lot beschreef en de hoop op een toekomst in vrijheid bezong. Op 28 augustus 1933 tijdens een ontspanningsavond voor en door gevangenen genaamd "Zirkus Konzentrazani" (Circus concentratiekamp)... (Continues)

La Espero ("de hoop") is het 'volkslied' van Esperanto. De tekst is geschreven door L. L. Zamenhof (1859-1917), de oorspronkelijke bedenker van de taal Esperanto. Het wordt nu gewoonlijk gezongen op muziek gecomponeerd door Félicien Menu de Ménil.

La versione risale a circa il 1870, fu diffusa su strooibriefjes (fogli volanti) in Belgio e finì ben presto sulla lista nera della stampa proibita dalla polizia. Fu poi assai popolare nei campi di concentramento nazisti, installati sia in Belgio che nei Paesi Bassi.

Se si dovesse selezionare una frase, un giudizio, una “sentenza” comune a tutte le canzoni contro la guerra scritte e cantate, diciamo, negli ultimi tremila anni in ogni paese e in ogni lingua del mondo, questa è senz’altro: “Sembra scritta appena ieri”. Non passano mai di moda, le canzoni contro la guerra: riflettono considerazioni, osservazioni e meccanismi antichi quanto la Terra. Lo si potrebbe naturalmente dire anche per questa canzone olandese, scritta “soltanto” centocinque anni fa, quasi al termine della I guerra mondiale, la “Grande Guerra” che avrebbe dovuto, naturalmente, far finire tutte le altre. Certo, cambiano i nomi, ci son quelli di moda allora come Lloyd George e il Kaiser; ma la sostanza non cambia di una virgola.
