Song Itinerary War in Viet Nam as seen from the U.S.
Did You Hear What They Said?
"White-only cemetery refuses Viet veteran
FORT PIERCE (Florida), 1970 Aug. 24 - Dexter Williams, a 20-year-old negro killed in Vietnam, had a fine funeral yesterday, but no one knows when or where he will be buried."

caro Enrico
....the next quiet place
I furl my sails.................

Three-Five-Zero-Zero
The 3-5-0-0 number is not enemy soldiers killed in one month, it is the # of US soldiers sent to Vietname in March, 1965 accompanied by the same # of body bags in that plane's cargo hold, expecting none to return alive.
https://hairattheeagletheatre.wordpres...
"3-5-0-0 Reference: What exactly does 3500 stand for?
Thanks to Justin for this information about the song 3-5-0-0, direct from the mouth of James Rado (co-author of Hair):
'3500 is the number of Marines sent on March 8,1965 as the US enter the Vietnam War. The bulk cargo on that flight? 3500 body bags. The military assumed loss of every single one of those soldiers even prior to that deployment. Jim heard that and it irked him to no end. Some re-writes he’s done have actually included the word body bags after “dirty little war, 3500.' "

Please Settle in Viet Nam
Hopkins recorded the song "Please Settle in Viet Nam" in Berkeley, California, under the direction of Chris Strachwitz (the founder of the Californian label Arhoolie Records), on 20 May 1969, for the session which produced the album Lightnin' (Poppy Records # PYS-60,002). But the song did not appear on the album. Strachwitz released "Please Settle in Viet Nam" on this single (Joliet # 205) and then later on the album Lightning Hopkins in Berkeley (Arhoolie # 1063). (1) Hopkins wanted to see "an ending to the war" and called on the government to settle the Vietnam issue. It also included a little twist. Hopkins said that his girlfriend actually had a man fighting in the war, and that he hoped "he'll stay forever" in the army, because he did not "want to leave that girl". This idea is similar to the "jody" theme - a mythical man in blues and jazz tunes who seduced the wives and girlfriends... (Continues)

And Freedom Too
Si veda anche Just Another Day
LBJ! Songs of the U.S.
"Now let us assume that we lost Indo-China. If Indo-China goes, several things happen right away. The peninsula, the, last bit of land hanging on down there, would be scarcely defensible. The tin and tungsten that we so greatly value from that area would cease coming.... So when the U.S. votes $400,000,000... (Continues)

Your Dirty Little Wars (The Ballad of Frederic Cheydleur)
Marti Rogers
(1967)

(Author's note: "My son has been in Vietnam for several months and knowing only too well haw gruesome the situation really is, I wanted to put into words some of my feelings about the war. I have wanted very desperately for this song to be heard because of the meaning it will have for other mothers who share a similar heartache... Who Killed Vietnam?
Norman A. Ross
(1968)

The War Is Over
Strofe originali / Original verses:
This song was originally written as follows. the first verse is the same as on the recorded version the second verse is
Cardboard cowboys of a new frontier
drowning indians in vats of beer
the troops are leaving on the trojan train
the sun in their eyes, but i am hiding from the rain
now one of us must be insane: i declare the war is over it's over it's over
the third verse is as follows
All the children play with gatling guns
tattoord moithers with their tattooed sons
the strong will wonder if they're really strong
but surely we've been gone to long i declare...
the fourth verse is the third on the recorded version and the fifth is the second on the record. the sixth is another verse that wasn't on the recording
But at least we're working building tanks and planes
and a raise is coming so we can't complain
the master of the march has lost... (Continues)

Avete sentito? La guerra è finita
Antiwar Songs Blog
