Sensō-wo Shiranai Otokotachi
「戦争を知らない子供たち」(せんそうをしらないこどもたち)は1970年に発表されたジローズ(第二次)のヒット曲。作詞は北山修、作曲は杉田二郎。
1971年2月5日にレコードが発売されるとオリコンチャート最高11位、196,000枚を売り上げるヒット曲となった。ジローズはこの年の日本レコード大賞新人賞を、北山修は作詞賞を受賞した。1973年にはこの曲の歌詞を原案にした同名の映画が制作された。

1970年当時、世はベトナム戦争の真っ最中であり、憲法の制約のある日本政府もアメリカ合衆国の戦争遂行に基地の提供といった形で協力していた。日本国内でも一部の文化人や学生を中心に反戦平和運動は盛り上がりを見せていた。そのような中で発表されたこの曲は日本における代表的な反戦歌となった。
大阪万博でのコンサートで初めて歌われた。
元々歌詞が先に出来ており、北山は真っ先に盟友加藤和彦に作曲してもらおうと思ったら、鼻で吹いて突っ返されてしまい、やむなく杉田の元に持って行ったという。
当初、北山修は、親しみやすく新しい反戦歌としてこの曲を作詞し、LP「戦争を知らない子供たち ~万国博ホールにおけるコンサート実況盤~」にも、彼の心からの反戦メッセージが収録されている。
だが、1980年頃より自ら下らない幼稚な歌詞だと発言したり、「自分たちが大人になっていく過程で大人たちに言われた『俺たちは戦争で苦労したんだ。いま、お前たちが好き勝手なことができるのは俺たちが苦労したおかげなんだ。』『いまの若い奴等は軟弱だ。俺たちは軍隊で鍛えられているからお前たちとは違うんだ』などという言葉に反抗したくて作ったんだと思う」という話を度々語るようになった。よってこの歌は、当初は北山が新しい反戦歌として製作したものの、他人からの厳しい意見や、自らの価値観の変化によって、現在は、北山にとって、古い世代に属する大人たちの価値観に対する皮肉を含んだ反抗の歌ということとなっている。
近年では「自衛隊の足がイラクについたその日から、もう『戦争を知らない子供たち』ではなくなってきている」と自らの発表した楽曲とそのメッセージとは裏腹に世界が争いに突き進んでいる様相を見て嘆きのコメントを寄せている。
余談だが、作曲した杉田二郎は昔も今も「これから生まれてくる子供達がいつまでも『戦争を知らない(戦争のない平和な世界を生きる)子供たち』であってほしい」と解釈している。... (Continues)
