![Баллада о борьбе](img/thumb/c3041_130x140.jpeg?1328562966)
The thing is that while Vysotski published a more 'correct' version (in accordance with the Russian strict norms of prosody), he himself sang a more meaningful, but less formally structured one:
the official version says
Children always feel vexed
With their age mode of life,
And we fought down to scratces,
To deadly insults.
He knew this version was stupid: although eager to be of age, kids are not vexed with their age and status in life (they are too busy solving their specific problems). It's a myth of the aged.
Besides, "fought till scratches"? Do silly scratches have anything to do with deadly insults? Not black eyes, nor bruises - scratches, for a boy? Does he have to fight to have ones? Who insults others because of a scratch is not worth a song, is he?
It definitely was not what Vysotski wanted to express, that's why he sang, in various combinations, nevertheless something meaning
