Amidst the ruins of Berlin
Trees are in bloom as they have never been.
Sometimes at night you feel in all your sorrow
A perfume as soft as sweet tomorrow.
That's when you realize at last
They won't return – those phantoms of the past
A brand new spring is to begin
Out of the ruins of Berlin!
Amidst the ruins of Berlin
Trees are in bloom as they have never been.
A perfume as soft as sweet tomorrow.
That's when you realize at last
They won't return – those phantoms of the past
A brand new spring is to begin
Out of the ruins of Berlin!

“To the Peoples of the World: This North American flag is dirty with the blood of thousands of Vietnamese women and children, who have been burned alive by bombs of napalm which are dropped from U.S. planes of aggression, for the sole reason that the Vietnamese Peoples want to live in peace and liberty with independence and self-determination. This North American flag is dirty with the blood of the Negro race of the United States who are assassinated in their beds while they sleep by the... (continuer)

The Sidney Carton's Final Speech
Let's not forget that these are the words of a renowned Victorian English author, intent on ennobling a countryman. The subtext is the moral supremacy of the English over 'Les Froggies'.

Krucjata

8a. Keskitysleirilaulu: First Finnish version by Elvi Sinervo
This first Finnish version by Elvi Sinervo was released in mid 1930s. To be mentioned a recording by the ensemble JOS-Agit, included in the 1976 album Työkansan Lauluja ("Songs of the Working People").

The fact that Gracias a la vida has more than one artistic version in the national language in some Nordic countries (e.g. Finland and Iceland) should be considered noteworthy. The following Finnish version, performed by another great local singer, Liisa Tavi, is an exemple. [RV]
