Dans Le Rire du sergent, un jeune conscrit semble se moquer de son sergent homosexuel qui a obtenu ses galons en cédant aux avances du «capitaine des dragons». La chanson, antimilitariste à la base, a été perçue à l'époque comme homophobe. Ce que Sardou démentira en chanson, en interprétant Le Privilège, une chanson qui évoque les sentiments douloureux d'un jeune garçon qui peine à assumer son homosexualité.
Dans son autobiographie, Et qu'on n'en parle plus, parue 2009, Michel Sardou donne une autre vision de la chanson : […]au moment de déclarer ma profession, j'annonçai "artiste" et, comme partout, lorsqu'on est artiste et un artiste inconnu, on fait forcément un métier de pédé. […] Vous savez maintenant que le "Rire du sergent" n'était ni une attaque, ni une revanche. Le "pédé", c'était moi.

Un brano commovente sulla denuncia di "persone" disumane contro creature fragili e indifesi.
Scritta nel 1989 e pensata come sostegno per l'associazione Telefono Azzurro, dedita alla tutela dei minori, "051/222525" - è il numero telefonico della stessa - esce inizialmente come 45 giri, ottenendo un gran successo e scalando le classifiche di vendita. In seguito, il brano entra a far parte di "Giannutri" (1990) - uno degli album più riusciti del nostro - tra la suggestiva "Speriamo che piova", le rockeggianti "Dancing Blu" ed "Entertainment", l'intensa "Senza far rumore". Ismael Serrano es un cantautor madrileño que utiliza su música como instrumento de denuncia. “La ciudad de los muertos”, “Al bando vencido”, “A las Madres de Mayo”, “Caperucita”, o “México insurgente” son algunos ejemplos de sus canciones que tratan sobre temas sociales y de crítica. El 2002 editó el álbum “La traición de Wendy”, del que destacamos “Si Peter Pan viniera”, una canción muy poética en qué denuncia la situación de muchos menores en cualquier parte del mundo.

En 1963, un groupe pas dans le vent (ou peut être le sirocco) se propulse avec un titre contestataire. Les Missiles ce sont des jeunes pieds-noirs d'Oran (l'accent est facilement reconnaissable) qui lancent un morceau revendicatif contre l'économie internationale et le dollar en particulier. L'esprit de camaraderie est aussi vanté dans ce titre librement inspiré de "Green back dollar" du Kingston trio.
Sacré Dollar est une chanson qui a aussi comme thème le Dollar.

Occupy Wall Street (We're Gonna Stay Right Here)

"I wrote the song for the Occupy movement. I landed in Philadelphia after 5-1/2 weeks on tour in Europe on September 16th and headed up to Brooklyn, where I had a gig that night. The next day was the first day of these ongoing protests on Wall Street and around the country and the world. In the course of a 7-week tour of the US and Canada I visited 18 Occupations.
This song has been well-received by Occupiers and their supporters, so I thought I'd spend a day at Big Red Studio when I got home to Portland, and I did -- with a stellar cast of musicians: Jarrod Kaplan on percussion, Arcellus Sykes on bass guitar, with Billy Oskay producing and engineering and Jim Cuda assisting.
As with any of my songs, you're welcome to play it, use it in videos, sing it, etc. If you want to sing it, it's easy - 3 chords: D, A and G!

La « Storia di Rodolfo Foscati » ( traduite en français sous le titre de « CENT-SEPT ») est ancienne et terrible chanson de prison de la tradition toscane.
Cette chanson a une origine obscure. Il y a un Rodolfo Foscati, patriote milanais, emprisonné durant les mouvements carbonari de 1821. Il y en a un autre de San Frediano, à Florence, protagoniste d'un événement sanglant et condamné à perpétuité. Peut-être ces deux figures se superposent, peut-être non ; la chanson est sûrement toscane et présente de manière crue les premiers et terribles jours de l'internement à vie...
Cette chanson est née à Florence dans le quartier de S. Frediano, est connue dans toute la Toscane comme « L'histoire du Cent-sept ». On dit qu'elle a été composée par le protagoniste lui-même : Rodolfo Foscati.

This one also caught my attention (see comment about "Shtil di Nakht") - also full of spelling mistakes in the original.
1) Even the title is wrong.
It says "מלכמה"
It should be "מלחמה"
2) in the 2nd verse, if one transliterates correctly:
Nito mayn kind, - a vaser
hot fartrunken alte miln.
This means:
There isn't any, my child, - a "water" (i.e. flood)
has flooded/swamped/inundated all the Mills.
and so, the Italian would be something like:
Non c’è, bambino mio, - acqua
ha inondato tutti i mulini.
3) in the 3rd verse, the water carried them down (aropgetrogn) - I assume the poet meant carried them away...
unless it's a typo and should be "opgetrogn" which is more logical - "carried them away" (as in "swept them away") - and retains the rhyme with "shlogn".

Le 12 octobre 1492, Christophe Colomb « découvrit » les Amériques ... Et les autochtones, lesquels ne savaient pas encore qu'ils étaient des « Indiens », criaient « Ciel ! Nous sommes découverts ! » et ils coururent se cacher dans la forêt, dit Lucien l'âne en riant de toutes ses blanches dents. D'ailleurs, Marco Valdo M.I., mon ami, tu devrais en faire une chanson...
Peut-être, un de ces jours...
