Mikis Theodorakis scrisse questa canzone in piena dittatura dei colonnelli, invitando i greci che vivevano sotto la tirannia a "non scordarsi di Oropos". Oropos è un'antica città dell'Attica orientale, di fronte all'isola di Eubea, dove subito dopo il colpo di stato del 21 aprile 1967 la giunta militare aveva impiantato uno dei numerosi lager per rinchiudervi gli oppositori politici. Di sicuro non poteva scordarsene Mikis Theodorakis, perché vi fu rinchiuso lui stesso.

Naturalmente la "Storia Ufficiale" in Italia ha sempre cercato di sminuire la sconfitta. Smascherare e ridicolizzare questi revisionismi è importante per combattere la retorica nazionalista e militarista.

P.S. La versione di Wikipedia è in netto contrasto con le cifre date da Vecchioni (anche considerando solo il rapporto di forze e non i numeri assoluti), viene infatti detto che il numero degli etiopi era "cinque o sei volte quindi le forze italiane". Non so se anche Wikipedia si sia allineata alla "versione ufficiale" o se Vecchioni abbia volutamente esagerato...

This song was written after the Jonesboro schoolyard shooting incident. She actually didn't realize she was writing it at the time. She was talking to herself while she was driving, and suddently realized that it was a song.

I find this song very powerful. Experts can (and probably will) debate about the cause of the dramatic increase in violence among children. While these debates are going on, more children are dying. Cheryl states the obvious: if we can keep guns away from children, they can't use them to kill others.

The song lists all the excuses that people put forth for the increase in violence among children. The song ends with her saying: "But if it were up to me, I'd take away the guns."

Izet Sarajlić, nato a Doboj nel 1930, è scomparso a Sarajevo il 2 maggio del 2002. Laureato in lettere alla facoltà di filosofia di Sarajevo, inizia a scrivere nel primo dopoguerra. Nel 1954, fonda il “Gruppo 54” che dà inizio alle nuove correnti di poesia moderna in Bosnia-Erzegovina. Negli anni ’60 e ’70, anima diversi gruppi di poeti ed edizioni di poesia. "A sarcastic song that was inspired by an article in the Feb 1989 issue of 'Time' on 'Popular Assault Weapons'. This was right after a man opened fire at an elementary playground with an assault rifle in Stockton, CA. The article claimed the typical American family was fairly well armed. Cheryl then started thinking about her childhood, and the fact that they didn't have any guns in the family. She remembered a vacation they took where they went out west and saw all the tourist sites. The two topics went together and merged into this song. The song portrays the NRA's version of a 'typical American family' going on vacation."

This song was written in early September 2006 in response to the release of Murat Kurnaz from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base after being detained for over four years. We are posting the song because of numerous requests. At this point the song may serve to raise questions as to the status of the Guantanamo detainees. This is a heart breaking legal and moral issue. We can not forget these human beings.

Nor can we forget John Walker Lindh who has also served over four years of a twenty year sentence imposed without any hard evidence against him. Recently he was transferred from a medium-security prison in California to Supermax, the Federal Government's most secure prison. No explanation has been given.

Our prayers are with him and others who have been imprisoned unjustly.

Folsom Prison Blues is an American country music song written by Johnny Cash in the early 1950s and originally recorded with his trio in 1956 for the Sun Records label. The song combines elements from two popular folk genres, the train song and the prison song, both of which Cash would continue to use for the rest of his career.

In the lyrics, the jailed protagonist listens to the whistle of the train outside his cell and recounts his deeds "I shot a man in Reno/just to watch him die," imagines the free people inside the train and dreams of what he would do if he were free. "I know I had it coming/I know I can't be free," sings the imprisoned man. "But those people keep a'moving/and that's what tortures me." Formatosi nel 1970 proprio per iniziativa di Sandy Denny, il gruppo dei Fotheringay pubblicò un solo album prima di sciogliersi un solo anno dopo, nel 1971. Da quell'unico album è tratta questa canzone. L'album ebbe peraltro un discreto successo.

‘Fotheringay’ was formed in 1970 by singer Sandy Denny (Ex-Strawbs ) upon her departure from ‘Fairport Convention’, together with her future husband, Australian songwriter Trevor Lucas (Ex-Eclection, ), Gerry Conway (Ex-Eclection) and two former members of ’Poet and the One Man band’ Jerry Donahue and Pat Donaldson. ‘Fotheringay’ played Folk-Rock similar to ‘Fairport Convention’, introducing Jazz-elements like ‘Pentangle‘.
