Molto prima dello scandalo "Watergate", John Lennon scrisse questa violenta invettiva contro Richard "Tricky Dicky" Nixon, detestato soprattutto per aver favorito l'escalation della Guerra del Vietnam. Nixon cercherà in tutti i modi di far espellere Lennon dagli USA, anche servendosi dell'FBI che lo sorvegliava aprendo anche un dossier su di lui. Recentemente a tal proposito è uscito lo splendido film "U.S.A. contro John Lennon". Imperdibile!

La più famosa canzone dedicata a Martin Luther King, il leader pacifista per i diritti civili ucciso a Memphis il 4 aprile 1968.

La canzone era stata inizialmente pensata per il presidente degli Stati Uniti, Ronald Reagan, famoso per il suo orgoglio. Dopo alcune riflessioni, Bono, autore del testo, decise di cambiarlo poiché Reagan, a suo dire, non meritava una canzone. Curiosamente, il verso del brano che si riferisce all'assassinio di Martin Luther King (Early morning, April 4/Shot rings out in the Memphis sky, "mattina presto, 4 aprile/si sente uno sparo nel cielo di Memphis") contiene un errore storico, perché King fu assassinato nel pomeriggio (intorno alle ore 19). Bono ha in seguito cercato di correggere l'errore cantando "early evening" anziché "early morning" in molte versioni dal vivo.

Ancora non sappiamo come l'avessimo dimenticata finora, grazie a Roberto Oliva che ci ha fatto notare questa imperdonabile dimenticanza.

Questa canzone è l'ennesimo invito di León a prendere coscienza della situazione, a fare qualcosa, a non lasciare che la storia ci passi accanto e si scriva con il sangue delle persone che la pensano diversamente dal governo, ovviamente fu proibita durante la dittatura militare. [MR]

Racconta León Gieco stesso che, nell'inverno del 1980 il generale Montes, tipico esponente della dittatura militare argentina dell'epoca, lo fece convocare all'improvviso nel suo ufficio del I Corpo dell'Esercito. Alle 7 di mattina, con un vestito prestato dal suo amico Oscar Moro, che gli stava grande, si presentò all'ufficio del generale, che lo minacciò senza tanti preamboli: "Se lei canta ancora questa canzone, "La historia esta", le faccio saltare le cervella io stesso". Questa canzone parla della storia di Romina Tejerina, una ragazza che è stata violentata ed è rimasta incinta.
Non riuscendo ad abortire poichè l'interruzione della gravidanza in Argentina è illegale, uccise la sua figlioletta subito dopo la nascita, e fu condannata per omicidio volontario.
Il suo presunto aggressore, Emilio Vargas, fu scarcerato dopo 23 giorni per mancanza di prove.
Vargas querellò León Gieco per aver fatto, con la sua canzone, apologia del delitto. Fortunatamente Gieco fu assolto dai giudici in quanto la libertà di espressione è uno dei fondamentali pilastri della democrazia ed ogni individuo ha diritto ad esprimere la sua opinione e diffonderla, in questo caso attraverso la musica, senza essere turbato per le proprie opinioni.

Il Collettivo Ticino Riva Sinistra di Nino Jomini, come oramai dovrebbe essere noto a tutti coloro che frequentano il nostro sito, era di Castano Primo; e di Castano primo era anche Giovanni Ardizzone, lo studente ucciso il 27 ottobre 1962 durante una manifestazione per la pace in occasione della Crisi di Cuba. Sull'Ardizzone già il CTRS aveva scritto una canzone. Quest'altra, più lunga ed esplicita (ma che utilizza senz'altro molte parti di "Dopo Ardisun"; quasi sembrano due "rami" della stessa canzone), la riprendiamo (ricopiandola) invece dalla brochure "Il canzoniere del Collettivo Ticino Riva Sinistra - Quindici canzoni popolari con testo a fronte" edito dalla Cooperativa "Il Guado" di Rebecchetto e fattoci pervenire da Simone Galli di Saronno (che non finiremo mai di ringraziare).

Non sappiamo, purtroppo, chi fossero quei tre ragazzi fucilati a vent'anni di cui parla questa bella canzone che riproduciamo dall'introvabile brochure dattiloscritta Il Canzoniere del Collettivo Ticino Riva Sinistra (Quindici canzoni popolari con testo a fronte), edito dalla Cooperativa Il Guado, una cui copia ci è stata gentilmente fatta pervenire dall'impareggiabile Simone Galli di Saronno, che ringraziare semplicemente sarà sempre troppo poco (anche perché ci ha inviato due CD zeppi di mp3, che potremo mettere online in un prossimo futuro a sostituire la pagina del Circolo di Rifondazione Comunista di Magenta –che ospitava tutte le canzoni del CTRS poi malauguratamente e inspiegabilmente rimosse).

Un'invettiva contro l'amministrazione Bush, a partire dalla gestione della tragedia di New Orleans, su cui nel 2005 si è abbattuto l'uragano Katrina.

E' il brano che apre la seconda parte dell'album "Both Sides of the Gun" (2006).

“È venuta fuori da sola il dodici settembre, immaginandomi là e ribadendo il no in previsione della reazione e di ciò che temevo sarebbe accaduto e che puntualmente accadde. Stop alle guerre.” (Claudio Cristoferone)

Antonello ha dedicato al padre diverse canzoni: "Mio padre ha un buco in gola"(dall'album "le cose della vita", 1973) , che prende il titolo dalla ferita subita da Vincenzo Italo Venditti nella seconda guerra mondiale. La "leggenda" racconta che un proiettile rimbalzò sulla fibbia della cinta e si conficcò in gola.
La canzone, dai toni molti aspri, è un atto di accusa verso i genitori giudicati dal giovane Venditti estremamente "chiusi" e simboli di un'Italia che non gli piace. La madre è "professoressa" di latino e greco, il papà proprio negli anni della contestazione è vice prefetto di Roma. Da notare il "simpatico" aneddoto secondo cui durante l'occupazione della facoltà di Architettura (Valle Giulia, vedi la canzone "Qui", "Cuore", 1984), il vice-prefetto chiamò con il megafono suo figlio dicendo "Antonello non fare il cretino, vai a casa"; Tornando alla canzone "Mio padre ha un buco...
