Si tratta di un brano facente parte del primo album del gruppo, intitolato semplicemente "The Monkees" e uscito nel settembre del 1966.
La solo apparentemente allegra canzonetta, in stile beatlesiano, racconta dell'addio di un soldato alla sua bella, convinto che non farà ritorno a casa.

Bubola riprende canti della tradizione popolare veneta: alcuni famosi (Era una notte che pioveva e Monte Canino) e altri meno noti: Il Disertore (o "Ero povero ma disertore"), Ponte de Priula e Adio Ronco, riarrangiati in chiave country o addirittura tex-mex.
Nel libretto, molto curato, tutte le canzoni sono tradotte in inglese da Tim Parks.

Richie Havens ha costruito sul palco di Woodstock uno dei momenti significativi del festival, di quelli che restano come punti fermi nella memoria di quell'evento. La sua "Freedom" resta una delle canzoni più emblematiche del festival. [...] Richie Havens, forse anche per il ritardo di altri, dovuto al caos che si era creato sulla stada che portava a Bethel, dove effettivamente si svolse il festival, fu il primo ad affrontare i cinquecentomila della platea, che probabilmente non erano ancora tutti, e a provare comunque il brivido che trasmetteva. Havens definì quella sensazione un "incidente cosmico". La sua "Freedom" (improvvisata sullo standard Motherless Child, sembra perché Havens aveva finito le canzoni del suo repertorio ma continuava ad essere richiamato sul palco dal pubblico), che innescò la prima scintilla fra il palco e la sterminata platea di Woodstock, risente... Twelve men filed in from the small hallway and announced that they were from the FBI. They arrested 32-year-old Julius Rosenberg as a spy.
A puffy, spectacled native New Yorker with a smudge-sized mustache and disappearing black hair, Rosenberg was the fourth U.S. citizen arrested in the atomic spy roundup that began after the arrest of British Physicist Klaus Fuchs. Probably the best known song to emerge from the Los Angeles office [of "People's Songs of California"] was Vern Partlow's Atomic Talking Blues or Old Man Atom. In 1958 Partlow recalled the song was inspired by a story assignment for The Los Angeles Daily News.
"I was assigned to interview various atomic scientists who visited the city to speak about the atom bomb ... I met with them and talked with them and I became a little alarmed, too. at what they were saying. And I agreed with them that something new had happened in the world -- something that would he with us a long time.
