Artisti Vari – Yayla: Musiche Ospitali (Appaloosa/Ird, 2018)

Il 20 giugno è uscita questa bella raccolta: un disco di incontri, di storie e di collaborazioni strane, inusuali e belle. La data non è casuale: quel giorno ricorre infatti la Giornata Mondiale del rifugiato. “Yayala” è una parola turca che significa transumanza, la migrazione periodica con cui si cercava un clima più mite e una terra più ospitale, per poi tornare alla propria; nel nome di questa Yayla, artisti italiani e stranieri (non solo musicisti, ma anche attori e scrittori) ci raccontano questo tempo ruvido e doloroso. I proventi della vendita del doppio cd andranno al Centro Astalli che da anni fornisce servizi per i rifugiati e promuove campagne di sensibilizzazione sul tema. The Fight for the Larzac refers to a non-violent civil disobedience action by farmers resisting the extension of an existing military base on the Larzac plateau in South Western France. The action lasted from 1971 to 1981, and ended in victory for the resistance movement when the newly elected President François Mitterrand formally abandoned the project.

The base, used for training French soldiers, was originally established in 1902 on 3,000 hectares (7,400 acres; 12 sq mi) of uncultivated heathland. Michel Debré, Minister of Defence in the Georges Pompidou administration, announced that the base would be extended to 13,700 hectares (34,000 acres; 53 sq mi) and that the necessary land would be expropriated in the public interest.

Una classica drinking  song con molto irish humor e una struttura che è anch’essa  tipica: un ritornello non-sense e la ripetizione degli ultimi due versi  cantati precedentemente dal solista.

Cover dei Bad Wolves dall'omonimo album (2014)

Nel 2018 i Bad Wolves avrebbero dovuta reinciderla. In un comunicato la band ha dichiarato che Dolores O'Riordan avrebbe dovuto registrare le parti vocali per il brano proprio il 15 gennaio, giorno in cui è stata trovata morta a Londra.

I Bad Wolves hanno deciso di rilasciare la traccia in memoria della cantante scomparsa e di destinare tutti i proventi ai tre figli di Dolores: 
"È un grande onore sapere che le piaceva la nostra versione della canzone e che voleva cantarla con noi" dice il cantante dei Bad Wolves, Tommy Vext "Siamo profondamente rattristati dall'improvvisa scomparsa di Dolores e dal fatto che ha lasciato dietro di se tre figli, quindi doneremo tutto il ricavato della canzone ai suoi bambini".

Il testo è una canzone d'amore nei confronti di un amore emigrato lontano.

Ho sempre adorato questa canzone! Spero che la mia traduzione in inglese possa essere utile. :)

""Preghiera in gennaio" was written on the occasion of the suicide of Luigi Tenco, a friend and fellow singer/songwriter. Tenco took his life after his song "Ciao amore, ciao" was rejected at the 1967 Sanremo Music Festival, an annual competition for Italian songwriters. At the time, suicide being considered a sin by the Church, a traditional Catholic funeral mass and burial were prohibited. The song itself was influenced by "Prière pour aller au paradis avec les ânes," a poem by Francis Jammes with whom De Andrè probably became familiar by way of Georges Brassens." (Dennis Criteser)

Hillsborough dell'89. La polizia ne fu responsabile (come recentemente ammesso , nel 2012, dall'ex premier Cameron), ma il governo della Lady di Ferro e i Tabloid (tra tutti il Sun che pare non sia particolarmente amato a Liverpool, dove subisce un boicottaggio da quasi 30 anni) fecero una campagna che colpevolizzava i tifosi, insabbiava le inchieste il tutto per colpire delle roccaforti della classe operaia che avevano solidarizzati con scioperanti e hungerstrikers

La voce non è più quella di una volta - 77 anni d'altra parte non sono pochi - ma il sentimento, la passione e l'impegno politico ci sono ancora.
