E’ convinzione abbastanza radicata, presso un buon numero di persone, che “sapere l’inglese” sia un segno di banalità mentale, di disperante normalizzazione, di acquiescenza all’ovvio e all’ordinario, di obbedienza al potere e all’imperialismo globale. In realtà, in tutto questo sussiste -a mio parere- un equivoco di fondo: quello che l’idioma cui si riferiscono tutte queste cose sia effettivamente l’ “inglese”. L’inglese non esiste praticamente più, ed ha cessato di esistere da un bel pezzo anche nei paesi dove lo si dovrebbe parlare come lingua materna (figuriamoci quindi in Italia, paese dove “dovere” si dice sempre “must”). Al suo posto si parla e scrive una specie di idioma planetario che assomiglia oramai sempre di più alla “Neolingua” di Orwell, pur non essendo stato ancora codificato precisamente, e che peraltro continua arbitrariamente ad essere... Nel 1971, l'album Fetus era stato preparato in doppia versione: italiana e inglese (in realtà, tutti i brani dell'album, anche quelli in italiano, devono essere ascritti al 1971). La versione inglese, Foetus fu scartata (probabilmente anche perché la pronuncia inglese di Battiato era atroce) e pubblicata soltanto nel 1999.

Freddie Gray, il ragazzo nero di 25 anni morto una settimana dopo essere stato arrestato a Baltimora lo scorso aprile [2015], ha subìto un unico colpo molto forte al collo e alla spina dorsale, molto probabilmente causato dalla brusca frenata del blindato della polizia in cui era stato caricato. Lo rivela l’autopsia sul corpo del ragazzo, di cui il Baltimore Sun ha ottenuto una copia. L’ufficio di medicina legale dello stato del Maryland ha concluso che la morte di Gray non può essere catalogata come un incidente, ma si è trattato di “omicidio” perché gli agenti non hanno seguito le procedure di sicurezza, compiendo “azioni di omissione”.

Frontman Gavin Rossdale was inspired to pen the politically charged song after seeing the violence that erupted during an August 2017 white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia:
This wasn't on the original release of Black And White Rainbows. When Bush re-formed in 2010 after their 2002 breakup, they signed with Zuma Rock Records, which issued the album in March 2017. In October, the band signed with BMG in a deal that included Rossdale's publishing. They released a remastered version of the album, with "This Is War" added to the tracklist.

When hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian protesters were squaring off against riot police in cities across the country on the week of the 10th anniversary of the Orange Revolution, Almonte musician Nathan Sloniowski released his song “Orange Ribbon” on YouTube. Ukrainian citizens were protesting against the government’s move to delay an association deal with the EU under pressure from Russia.
“I am very inspired to see the spirit of the Orange Revolution rise among the Ukrainian people once again,” said Sloniowski. “As my contribution to the current struggle for social justice and the rule of law, I have posted “Orange Ribbon” to YouTube.

The song Unfortunates by State Radio, released in their album Year of the crow is about the West Memphis Three, three teenagers (Damien Echols, Jesse Misskelley and Jason Baldwin) that were tried for the murder of three boys and convicted.
About 18 years later they were released as DNA evidence showed signs of their innocence.

The censored version of Splinter contains an instrumental version of the song, with a clarinet taking place of the vocals.
The song is played an an old 20th century LP. The quality and background noise is the same of that as an LP from the 50’s.
Dexter also sounds very different than normal, as this isn’t even a rock song, but an old 50’s ballad, in which Dexter sings with a soft voice.
