Scritta nei mesi successivi alla decisione della Corte Suprema di rovesciare la sentenza Roe v. Wade, “The Lighthouse” vede l’affermata cantante invitare alla resistenza, all’azione e al ripristino dei diritti. “The Lighthouse” vede la partecipazione di Sheryl Crow alla chitarra, al basso e ai cori, con la produzione di Crow e Dave Cobb.

Sembrava che da un giorno all’altro la gente dicesse: “Cosa possiamo fare noi, come forza collettiva, a questo proposito…” Per me si trattava di scrivere una canzone“, ha spiegato Nicks in una dichiarazione.

Un classico della psichedelia, forse la più bella e famosa canzone di Donovan, dallo storico album Sunshine Superman.

La canzone in realtà non parla direttamente di caccia alle streghe. La stagione della Strega è quella immediatamente precedente a Halloween e nella canzone è utilizzata per raccontare la paranoia di Donovan, che nel 1966 era stato arrestato per possesso di marijuana e che si guarda alle spalle e dappertutto vede qualcuno che gli vuol far del male, poliziotti che lo vogliono arrestare, o che lo vogliono rinchiudere in un ospedale psichiatrico. La canzone si ricollega metaforicamente alla caccia alle streghe per raccontare la paranoia di chi sa di essere seguito, e possibilmente perseguitato da una qualche autorità.

La canzone che chiude l'album Hail To The Thief

Il lupo alla porta è simbolicamente il creditore che viene a riscuotere quel che gli è dovuto, tenerlo lontano dalla porta vuol dire riuscire a sbarcare il lunario evitando grandi rischi finanziari. Ma in questa bellissima canzone (che andrà tradotta e commentata accuratamente) il lupo è il sistema capitalista e il testo può essere letto come una potente favola anticapitalista.

Il lupo possono essere le banche, pronte a concedere crediti senza limiti, per poi portarti via tutto quando subentra la crisi e le cose cominciano ad andare male, o i governi che tagliano la spesa sociale per poi regalare miliardi al sistema bancario quando rischia il fallimento. Perché tanto ci saranno sempre le classi subalterne a pagare il prezzo della crisi scatenata dalle classi dominanti nella guerra dei centomila anni.

Pagine Esteri, 4 settembre 2024 (di Patrizia Zanelli) – Durante l’operazione Margine protettivo, condotta da Israele contro Hamas a Gaza dall’8 luglio al 26 agosto 2014, Rafeef Ziadah ha scritto la poesia “If My Words”, inclusa nell’album We Teach Life (2015), nonché un articolo pubblicato su The Guardian, in cui dice: “Ho iniziato la mia vita sotto l’assedio e i bombardamenti israeliani. scritta nel 2009, perché, mentre Gaza era sotto i bombardamenti israeliani, e lei lavorava come portavoce dell’ufficio stampa di una coalizione pacifista, un giornalista che la voleva intervistare, le aveva chiesto: “Non pensa che tutto andrebbe bene se smetteste di insegnare ai vostri figli a odiare?”. È una domanda tipica dell’antipalestinismo, una delle tante che vengono rivolte a ogni palestinese, colpevole soltanto della sua identità culturale; un classico caso dell’oppressore che colpevolizza le vittime della sua oppressione. My words are aimed at reminding us that we all bleed the same red; our tears taste of the same salt – we’re the root of one tree – we’re all part of the same human species, but can we call ourselves humans when we lack humanity? The impetus for this song is the rise of Hindu fundamentalism. This movement marginalizes Muslims and other ethnic minorities and is an ideology embodied in the political party which currently governs India. This wave of religious hatred has also spread in the Indian Diaspora, and many who are against it do not speak out for fear of repercussions. Social preservation dictates that they stay quiet even in the face of injustice to others. This song is about feeling overwhelmed with the current state of political polarization in the world. Nationalist politicians around the globe are targeting ethnic minorities and immigrants. Most of us have strong opinions on these issues and it’s sadly often impossible to talk with those we disagree with without the conversations turning into yelling matches. I’ve found it very hard to control my anger when talking to family members about the cons of fundamentalism and tribal thinking. So instead of talking, I‘m singing my opinion – this song reminds us that we are all from one root; we all bleed the same shade of red.

Residents in an eastern German town found a novel way of protesting against neo-Nazis – by buying up beer.
Their action at the weekend was aimed at fans attending a far-right German rock festival called Schild und Schwert Festival (Shield and Sword or SS) in Ostritz, a small town in Saxony on the German-Polish border.
Police had seized 4,400 liters of beer from festival-goers after an alcohol ban was imposed by a court near Dresden, which ruled the event had an "aggressive character". The court felt there was a risk that alcohol could make violence more likely.

But locals suspected that fans heading to the festival – known for "Rechtsrock" music, which promotes white nationalism – would head to the supermarket instead to stock up on alcohol.
So they reacted by buying up more than 200 crates of beer, leaving the festival attendees thirsty.
