The lyrics veer quickly from a recollection of life before emancipation (a "Colored man" slept on "chips 'n' straw," while today he sleeps on a feather bed) to a somewhat jumbled account of a trial. In his notes, Smith points out that the lyric "over the road I'm bound to go" is "seldom heard other than in songs dealing with prison." Although it is never explicitly stated in the song that the speaker is found guilty and sent to jail, it may be inferred by the constant refrain "over the road I'm bound to go." It is significant that the next three songs that follow "Feather Bed" all deal with, or make mention of, prisons or jailhouses. For this reason, the first line's comment that "colored man plumb fool about feather bed" may be intended to be ironic, given that the speaker is headed for accommodations that a far from plush.

But I can't find an anti-war chorus or soloist to sing it. Can you help?

Una bellissima e potente canzone, a mio parere la migliore di Yoko Ono, che qui sfodera una voce incredibile, un po' Nico un po' Lana Del Rey ante litteram (non si capisce perché in tante altre occasioni si limitasse a urlare).
L'argomento della canzone è la figura pubblica di Yoko, che veniva vista semplicemente come la "Signora Lennon", la strega responsabile dello scioglimento dei Beatles, e non come un'artista indipendente dal marito.
Ma la canzone, scritta nello stesso anno di Imagine e il cui video appare anche nel film del 1972 ispirato all'inno pacifista di Lennon, ha anche un chiaro riferimento alla guerra - probabilmente il Vietnam. I nostri figli, i nostri figli, dovevano proprio andare in guerra?

All I Need is an anti war song. A song about the loved ones left behind when working class men lose their lives to other working class men under the orders of millionaires.
Myself and @tomlaxton_ had a hard task to convey the song with the right meaning. We wanted to show the restless and manic state inside the mind of someone who has seen horrors. A huge part of the challenge was making this work with such short notice and lack of budget or time. So the two of us armed with a camera and a suitcase filled with clothes went into a forest and began creating as many different states of emotion as we could.
With various different pieces of uniform collected from different countries and conflicts we wanted to show a lack of specificity to where the soldier is from.

Nel contesto grottesco del film si inserisce bene anche la canzone di Ariana Grande, a suo modo brava nel ruolo di pop star svampita.

Nel suo album natalizio atipico uscito quest'anno, quasi tutte le canzoni sono originali. Shires si tiene lontana dagli standard dei canzoniere natalizio, concedendo ai classici solo questa reinterpretazione di Silent Night.

Un message dénonciateur, un message en mémoire à cette tragédie survenue il y a un an, un message pour continuer à combattre ce fléau avec les mots.

Primo singolo estratto dall'album di prossima pubblicazione "The War to End All Wars", un concept sulla Prima guerra mondiale.
Nel Natale del 1914 ci furono varie tregue non autorizzate , i soldati dei due fonti fraternizzarono , cantarono , parteciparono a funzioni religiose comuni , giocarono a calcio.

Christmas Truce was our highest priority when we decided to write songs about World War One. Not only was it the most requested topic from our fans, but it was, for us, the most emotional story from the war. This song took us years to create since we wanted the music to reflect the mood honestly and it was a big challenge, but we feel we managed to write a song that captures the spirit of this day, over a century ago.

Joy Division took their name from the novel "The House Of Dolls" by Jewish author Ka-Tzetnik 135633 (real name Yehiel Feiner, or Yehiel De-Nur), an Auschwitz survivor (his pen name means "Concentration Camper", and 135633 was his number). He wrote about the horrors committed by the nazis. "The House Of Dolls" is about Joy Division - Jewish women in concentration camps who were made into sex slaves for the pleasure of Nazi soldiers. He claimed it was inspired by the fate of his younger sister who did not survive the Holocaust.
