L'Internationale

L'Internationale
BENGALESE / BENGALI 1
Versione bengalese di Kazi Nazrul Islam
Bengali version by Kazi Nazrul Islam
Fonte / Source
1927

"The Internationale" was first translated to Bengali by the rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam (1899-1976). Nazrul, who was greatly inspired by the tenets of Socialism and its relevance to India under British colonial occupation, authored numerous poems in Bengali highlighting socio-political issues, including gender and economic inequities, and social justice overall. Around 1927, Nazrul (already an established poet and composer), was approached by Muzaffar Ahmad, one of the Founders of the Communist Party of India, requesting that he translate the celebrated song into Bengali. While it maintains the essential theme of the original (via the English version), Nazrul skillfully inserted salient social issues into it within the Indian context." - en.wikipedia.

Warszawianka 1905 roku [Варшавянка; La Varsovienne; ¡A las barricadas!]
3j. Version in the Bengali language by Hemanga Biswas

The Bengali version of "Varshavianka" was first translated by Hemanga Biswas (1912-1987), a Bengali and Assamese language researcher from Bangladesh. He encountered the ideology of communism at Muralichand University and translated many revolutionary songs into Bengali. It was also he who first translated the world-famous song "L'internationale" into Bengali. Many of the songs he wrote were dedicated to tea garden workers, peasants and the lower classes in disadvantaged areas and are loved by workers to this day. Although he was arrested by the government authorities in 1930 on charges of political ideology, he did not give up and went on to play a central role in the left-wing movement in Bangladesh, in 1987 he lived out his entire life. In this video, communist students at Dhaka... (continuer)

Where Have all the Flowers Gone

Where Have all the Flowers Gone
BENGALESE/BENGALI/BENGALAIS
Kabir Suman /

কোথায় গেল তারা - Kothay gelo tara, the Bengali version by Kabir Suman (কবীর সুমন).

"I adopted the song text of 'Where Have All The Flowers Gone' by Pete Seeger in Bengali in 1968 when I was 19 years old. I put it to my own melody in 1985. It took me long time, almost 20 years to decide whether I should keep the original melody by Pete Seeger or create my own melody. Interestingly I had added my own final verse to the original song text. The final verse of my song does not exist in Pete Seeger's song. This is my addition. When I told this to Pete Seeger in 1983, he was very happy. He said this is how folk songs come into being. The melody is mine. It does not resemble the Pete Seeger melody in the least. The famous chorus "When Will They Ever Learn" is not there in my song. I decided not to incorporate it, for it would then have destroyed... (continuer)

Terzo testo raccolto tra i Rohingya profughi in Bangladesh

Testo trovato in Farzana, K. F. (2011). Music and Artistic Artefacts: Symbols of Rohingya Identity and Everyday Resistance in Borderlands. ASEAS – Austrian Journal of South-East Asian Studies, 4(2), 215-236.

For the refugees, songs are used as a glue for community bonding. Besides singing individually, refugees in Nayapara occasionally camp out, once or twice a month, for small singing programmes, usually on a moonlit night, within their small boundary between huts and only with the consent of the Camp-in-Charge.14 At these gatherings, they use their traditional instruments (juri and tobla) and sing country songs, religious or philosophical songs, and songs that represent their everyday issues in the camp. Although the group performances in camp are mostly by men, women are welcome as well. As these gatherings... (continuer)

- bn.wikipedia

Mohit Bandhopadhay translated 'The Internationale' and 'Soviet Land' into Bengali with original score (Pradhan, S. (1985) Marxist Cultural Movement in India, Mrs. Santi Pradhan, Kolkata)

English literal translation

Arise, arise, arise proletarians,
And prisoners of starvation,
The workers have responded today,
Our liberation has been confirmed.
All ancient worn out superstitions;
Break those and arise, masses,
Get rid of your poverty and sorrows,
By fighting till death.

The final war begins comrade,
Let us unite,
The Internationale shall unite the human race.
The final war begins comrade,
Let us unite,
The Internationale shall unite the human race.
