Stung Right
These lyrics have been written by an unknown Finnish-American author, propably a Wobbly, i.e. a member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), or »tuplajuulainen« (a double-u'er) as the Finnish Wobblies used to call themselves. This is clearly shown by the word »skääppi«, a Finglish equivalent of the English word scab. And scabs are what this version of the song is all about.

This Finnish-American Wobbly version of the song by an unknown author was first published in 1918 in Proletaari Lauluja (Proletarian Songs, Workers Socialist Publishing Company, Duluth, Minnesota). According to Ilpo Saunio & Timo Tuovinen’s book Edestä aattehen - suomalaisia työväenlauluja 1890 - 1938 (For the Cause - Finnish Working Class Songs 1890 - 1938, Tammi Publishing Company, Helsinki 1978), its lyricist is unknown suggesting that the Finnish music archive records crediting the almost identical lyrics of the above version (Proletaarit nouskaa) from 1928 to Hannes Saari may not be correct.

This Finnish-American translation by an unknown author was first published in 1918 in Proletaari Lauluja (Proletarian Songs, Workers Socialist Publishing Company, Duluth, Minnesota). Interestingly, the title Puupää (blockhead) refers rather to Joe Hill's Mr. Block ) than this song.

Con questa seconda canzone il "Tratturo Zero” va ancora oltre la dimensione territoriale internazionalista di “This land is your land" assumendone anche una politico sociale.
Si tratta qui di cantare a proposito delle prime lotte contadine, sotto forma di sabotaggi, per la conquista di una paga e un orario più dignitosi. Il riferimento e "Ta ra ra boom de ay" del sindacalista anarchico e folk singer Joe Hill. E’ qui adattata in dialetto romanesco per conservarne l‘originale ironia che più incisivamente si può esprimere con i dialetti, soprattutto quando si narrano storie cosi popolari e tragiche come il sabotaggio.
La versione originale dei 1891 è attribuita a Henry J. Sayers, invece l‘elaborazione di Joe Hill fu pubblicata per la prima volta, nel marzo del 1916, nel ”Joe Hill Memorial Edition of the industrial Worker - Little Red Songbook”.

The above Finnish translation of this song last ever written by Joe Hill is from a 1982 book titled »Rauhanlauluja« (Peace Songs). The text was first published in »Palkkaorjain lauluja« (The Wage Slaves' Songs, Duluth, Minnesota, 1925) by Rock Maple Ridge Workers Association.

Preambolo personale da lasciar perdere o eventualmente aggiungere alla vostra serie di “E chi se ne frega?” (battuta rubata all’ottimo Bottura).
Non frequento sale cinematografiche da decenni e non avendo praticamente mai posseduto un televisore, le mie conoscenza in materia di film sono sicuramente scarse e datate. Risalgono alla fine dei sessanta e ai primi settanta la maggior parte dei miei ricordi cinematografici. Oltre a qualche pellicola precedente, degli anni cinquanta, vista da bambino nel cinema parrocchiale di Debba (tra cui “Il massacro di Fort Apache” - per Domenico Buffarini forse il primo esempio di una pellicola non apertamente razzista con i “pellerossa”). Successivamente, sempre in cinema parrocchiali, ma di Vicenza (Santa Chiara soprattutto). Al momento ne ricordo... (continuer)
