"I wrote this song about my brother several years ago when his troop was about to be sent overseas to the war in Kosovo. I didn't play it for the longest time, then decided to dig it to pick it back up one night at a gig, and I was pleasantly surprised by the interest and appreciation it generated."
Sheila Kirsten Hughes
In war we kill in the name of peace
Families cry as loved ones die in war

Troops pledge allegiance to their flags in the war
While leaders send them to their deaths on distant shores

How can we fight for peace with war?
What is all this senseless fighting for?
Hear the children cry
Hear the children cry in the war

My brother's in the army now
I pray for him each day
I dread the day the leaders say
They're sending him away

But he tells me I'll be home soon
Don't you shed a tear
This war won't send me anywhere
And I'll be safe here

How can we fight for peace with war?
What is all this senseless fighting for?
Hear the children cry
Hear the children cry in the war

Innocence is lost
Bodies turn to dust
And the leaders want applause for what they've done for the war

Hear the children cry
Hear the children cry
Hear the children cry
Hear the children cry in the war

Now I lay me down to die
Beneath the crimson sky
Wipe the tears from your eyes
They say grown men don't cry in the war
