Vasco Scansani.
Nell'agosto del 1962 Roberto Leydi e Gianni Bosio intervistano Giovanna Daffini che canta loro la “versione mondina” di Bella Ciao, dicendo di averla cantata già negli anni '40. Essa verrà poi presentata e cantata al Festival dei Due Mondi di Spoleto come la progenitrice della versione partigiana; è a questo punto che Vasco Scansani mandò una lettera a L'Unità rivendicandone la paternità.
Vasco Scansani, di Gualtieri (RE), mondino, marmista e pittore detto “Il Cachi” (fu anche amico del celebre pittore naïf Antonio Ligabue) la aveva scritta, quando già “Bella Ciao” si era diffusa e riprendendone fedelmente la struttura e la melodia, nel luglio 1951 alla "Festa della Mondina" a San Germano Vercellese, e la aveva cantata da solo in quell'occasione perché la Daffini e altre ragazze all'ultimo momento si erano rifiutate. Diversa la versione raccontata dal figlio di Vasco Scansani, Alfio, che conserva numerosi documenti del padre: la “versione delle mondine” sarebbe stata scritta, secondo lui, nell'estate del 1952, mentre la famiglia Scansani si trovava al mare.
Nel 1974 Cesare Bermani verrà però a scoprire che una versione di risaia di Bella ciao, "La risaia" di Rinaldo Salvadori, era stata effettivamente cantata nel Vercellese prima della guerra, con un testo diverso ma con un aria simile.
Alla diffusione della leggenda del “canto originario delle mondine” avrebbe contribuito anche il fatto che a Gualtieri abitava anche Giovanna Daffini; non solo a Gualtieri, ma anche nello stesso stabile della famiglia Scansani, Palazzo Bentivoglio. In August 1962, Roberto Leydi and Gianni Bosio had an interview with Giovanna Daffini, who sang for them the “Riceweeders’ Version” of Bella Ciao and told them she had already sung it in the 1940s.
