The Dream

I wont ever speak often
of the things I've seen
did we stared in wide wonder or
perhaps it was a dream

how the earth did tremble
and the skies grew dark
through the smoke and thunder
we still could hear a lark

singing soft and sweetly
bringing tears to eye
and ten thousand boys
cried

she was there with Longstreet
on the Orange Plank Road
she was the voice in The Wilderness
where her colours showed

her flight never wavered
above the gathering storm
her voice healed nation
so vicously torn

singing soft and sweetly
bringing tears to eye
and ten thousand boys
cried

she sang to us of peace
a place for us to reach
and as she flew, our hate withdrew

i wont ever speak often
of the things I've seen
did we stared in wide wonder or
perhaps it was a dream

how the earth did tremble
and the skies grew dark
through the smoke and thunder
we still could hear a lark

singing soft and sweetly
bringing tears to eye
and ten thousand boys
cried
