The Howl of the Nightmare
The Howl of the Nightmare

This poetic form is called a "villainelle"; probably one of the most famous examples is Dylan Thomas' "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night".

You Can Choose Your Dream, But They Will Choose Your Nightmare
You can choose your dream, but they will choose your nightmare
Ignore the sun pushing through looming storm clouds
And cry not when for you they simply do not care

Slither away underground to your comfortable lair
Ensconce yourself in your pretty digital shrouds
You can choose your dream, but they will choose your nightmare

Be the axe that falls upon the necks of those who dare
Burn them down, salt the earth, along with fertile crowds
And cry not when for you they simply do not care

Forget about it all, it’s all happening “over there”
It’s not our children slaughtered laid to rest in bloody shrouds
You can choose your dream, but they will choose your nightmare

Be the clothing of the sheep that all the wolves wear
Protect them from the ire of the burgeoning crowds
And cry not when for you they simply do not care

Stay chained in your cave never knowing the sun’s glare
The shadows on the wall are your pure white fluffy clouds
You can choose your dream, but they will choose your nightmare
And cry not when for you they simply do not care
