The Ballad of Brian Haw

Barry Butler
Language: English

Did you hear about the man
outside Downing Street
His lone dissenting voice
was far to loud it seems

Calling an end to war
Standing up for peace
got Brian Haw
arrested by the police

Declaring his feelings
What he thought about the war
So they came and
bundled him away

'Cause, what he said
Might incite the crowd
seems that dissension's
No longer allowed

Truth can be denied
Can't hold back the tide
You can shut up one man
Hold a trial do him down

You cannot fool us all
All of the time
And many feel this war
is a crime.

But that single lonely voice
is not now alone
Behind them there are so
many more ..

And his single lonely call
it echoes wall to wall
Listen carefully
You may hear them roar

So before you shut him up
Send him down and lock him up
This government that sent our troops to war

Calling for loyalty
From all...well...perhaps
They had better
Make damn sure

Truth can be denied
Can't hold back the tide
You can shut up one man
Hold a trial do him down

You cannot fool us all
All of the time
And many feel this war
is a crime.

There's a shared point of view
By so many in this land
Among so many who doubt
and recoil

Who see their loved ones
being killed and maimed
And wonder if the whole bloody thing
Was for oil

Truth can be denied
Can't hold back the tide
You can shut up one man
Hold a trial do him down

You cannot fool us all
All of the time
And many feel this war
is a crime.
