I didn't know nothing so I did some research into the cause.
It's a confusing mix of European conflict politics.
Religious indignation, from the Black Sea to the Baltic.
And they're dying for nothing
Because they're fighting another stupid war
Of disasters
Caused by the masters
The orders of the officers
The Crimean War.
The siege of Sevastopol
Balaclava, naval wars.
The Light Brigade's descent to hell
The Crimean War.
There was modern technology for the first modern war.
Like blind bombardments causing the first modern death tolls.
But with ancient tactics like the cavalry charge,
The armies of Europe bled their blood as they learnt their lesson hard.

La guerra di Crimea fu un conflitto combattuto dal 4 ottobre 1853 al 1º febbraio 1856 fra l'Impero russo da un lato e un'alleanza composta da Impero ottomano, Francia, Gran Bretagna e Regno di Sardegna dall'altro. Il conflitto ebbe origine da una disputa fra Russia e Francia sul controllo dei luoghi santi della cristianità in territorio ottomano.
Quando la Turchia accettò le proposte francesi, la Russia nel luglio 1853 la attaccò. La Gran Bretagna, temendo l'espansione russa verso il Mediterraneo, si unì alla Francia ed entrambe si mossero per difendere la Turchia, dichiarando guerra alla Russia nel marzo del 1854. L'Austria appoggiò politicamente le potenze occidentali e il Regno di Sardegna, nel timore che la Francia si legasse troppo all'Austria, nel gennaio 1855 inviò un contingente militare al fianco dell'esercito anglo-francese dichiarando a sua volta guerra alla Russia.
Il conflitto si svolse soprattutto nella penisola russa di Crimea, dove le truppe alleate misero sotto assedio la città di Sebastopoli, principale base navale russa del mar Nero. Dopo vani tentativi dei russi di rompere l'assedio (battaglie di Balaklava, di Inkerman, della Cernaia) e l'attacco finale degli alleati, Sebastopoli fu abbandonata dai difensori il 9 settembre 1855, portando alla sconfitta della Russia.
Il Congresso di Parigi del 1856 stabilì le condizioni di pace, avvicinando politicamente il Regno di Sardegna alla Francia e favorendo quel processo di intese che porterà nel 1859 alla seconda guerra di indipendenza.
