Igbo Landing è il nome di un posto nei pressi di Dunbar Creek, St. Simons Island, proprio sulla costa della Georgia. E' il luogo in cui nel 1803 un gruppo di prigionieri nativi della Nigeria, di etnia Igbo, portati fin lì su di una nave negriera per essere poi venduti come schiavi, si ribellarono e uccisero i loro carcerieri.
Cosa successe dopo non è chiaro.
La tradizione vuole che molti dei ribelli si diedero la morte annegandosi nella palude circostante. Si sarebbero volontariamente annegati accompagnandosi con il canto "Orimiri Omambala by anyi bia. Orimiri Omambala ka anyi ga ejina", "Lo spirito dell'acqua ci ha portati qui, lo spirito dell'acqua ci riporterà a casa"
Più probabilmente, alcuni trovarono la morte nel tentativo di fuga, altri furono riacciuffati e avviati al lavoro forzato...
