The farmer’s story is the higgler’s glory
Poor farmer, bend his back in the sun all day
Poor farmer, get up everyday to work his life away
Poor farmer so much work with so little pay
Poor farmer, must be rewarded one of these days
The higgler lives in a mansion
While the farmer lives in a hut
The higgler eats steak and snapper
While the farmer eats chicken back
The higgler rides in a Prado
While the farmer rides a donkey back
The higgler puts the money in the bank
While the farmer ties his little knot
I say
Poor farmer, bend his back in the sun all day
Poor farmer, get up everyday to work his life away
Poor farmer so much work with so little pay
Poor farmer, he must be rewarded one of these days
He’s off to his field at the break of dawn
The roosters crowing is his only alarm
All day he toils in the burning sun
Digging and weeding til the evening come
Then he takes his produce to the market place
The little that he makes is a big disgrace
Can barely feed his children and send them to school
So they can learn the golden rule
I say
Poor farmer, bend his back in the sun all day
Poor farmer, get up everyday to work his life away
Poor farmer so much work with so little pay
Poor farmer, he must be rewarded one of these days
The higgler lives in a mansion
While the farmer lives in a hut
The higgler eats steak and snapper
While the farmer eats chicken back
The higgler rides in a prada
While the farmer rides a donkey back
Poor farmer, bend his back in the sun all day
Poor farmer
Poor farmer, bend his back in the sun all day
Poor farmer, get up everyday to work his life away
