homeless, helpless, hopeless
I guess I 'll be penniless unless I found (what?)
beer cans, coke cans, how can
my hands reach straight down and snatch them from the ground
plastic garbage bags of wither,
put them in then this cart I found (where?)
in the upper tray parking lot,
where no one saw it softly roll away
a metal mazer, a dumpster diver,
you won't believe the things they throw in there
cops on horseback, stay on my back,
say "we dont't care were you go, just don't stay here"
downtown, handout, lunchtime, Nanda
sisters serve a sandwich and a smile
cheese on white bread, guess that's enaugh 's it
dinner's done I best be on my way
Well I got my Stan Smith, 'cause beneath the interstate
I'm rolling for that station out of town
twentifour cents a pound, for all the cans you can hold down
is that the deal for what I d'like to know
liquor store man, sees me coming, grabs my bottle, here I'm homing
we have been through this once or twice before
thanks god it's not called out I got
no one close to service full of toots
one day last week three toots raw me
on my run down to the liquor store
I got the sixo better never
had on never quite like that before
Night falls, I fall, then that sleepy
'neath my favorite bridge, I'm not alone
Sun up brings up one more day just
like the day ahead the day before
homeless, helpless, hopeless
I guess I 'll be penniless unless I found
beer cans, coke cans, how can
my hands reach straight down and snatch them from the ground
