The best S.A. songwriter you’ve never heard of was a Army reserve veteran

Passed the time, spent drinking wine, down at the tavern, now
since the foreman said he d'have to let me go
he's being hanging around the house since Sue walked out the door,
I don't blame her, she just can't take anymore

Eighteen years ago, today, they d'put me on that plane
that I would leave the jungle far behind
but somehow it hasn't worked that quite that way for me
the worries soon had over in my mind

No ticker tape parade or brass band greeted me
that day in San Diego we turned down
Not that I expected yellow ribbons around the trees
but I am a stranger in my own home town

Man one handed he has come to be a friend of mine
since we found that we had both been over there
and it helps to know that I'm not the only one
who sleeps with troubled dreams and wicked scares

Last night, one of that, walked in a busy packed store
to see if they were ready cash on hand
I guess we got a bit more than we bargained for
one got shot, and I am on the run

No ticker tape parade or brass band greeted me
that day in San Diego we turned down
Not that I expected yellow ribbons around the trees
but I am a stranger in my own home town
Still a stranger in my own home town
