Amerindios

One of the most important songs of the detention centres. Impossible to count how many times we sang it. Every time someone was released from a detention camp or there was credible information that a person would be sent to exile, a gigantic chorus would sing this song, in a powerful unison.
Cantos Cautivos

THE PAPER BOAT

The paper boat sets off
on the sea of hope
carrying a bunch of dreams
and children can’t reach it.

Going away, going away, going away, never to come back
going away, going away, going away, never to come back.

One passenger is a doctor
a soldier is the captain
a bourgeois is the cannon operator
and the queen is of tar

Going away, going away, going away, never to come back
going away, going away, going away, never to come back.

A worker climbs aboard the ship
an artist, a teacher
and also that little girl
who stayed behind on the shore.

Going away, going away, going away, and will come back
going away, going away, going away, and will come back.

Climb aboard the boat, sailor
they don’t come to fight
they are all comrades
of peace and equality.

Going away, going away, and will come back
going away, going away, towards freedom.

LA BARCA DI CARTA

Se ne va la barca di carta
per il mare della speranza
e porta un sacco di sogni
e i bambini non lo raggiungono.

Se ne va, se ne va, se ne va e non tornerà
Se ne va, se ne va, se ne va e non tornerà

C'è un dottore come passeggero
un soldato è capitano
un borghese è mitragliere
e una regina di catrame

Se ne va, se ne va, se ne va e non tornerà
Se ne va, se ne va, se ne va e non tornerà

Sale sulla barca un operaio
un artista, un professore
e sale anche quella bambina
che è rimasta sulla riva

Se ne va, se ne va, se ne va e ritornerà
Se ne va, se ne va, se ne va e ritornerà

Sali a bordo marinaio
che non debbano più combattere
che siano tutti compagni
della pace e dell'uguaglianza

Se ne va, se ne va, se ne va e ritornerà
s ne va, se ne va, se ne va verso la libertà

BARKBÅTEN

Se, där far en båt av bark
på hoppets vida vatten
Den är till bredden fylld av drömmar
Och ingen kan ta fatt den

Den far, den far
Den kommer ej tillbaks
Den far, den far
Den kommer ej tillbaks

Det står en arbetsman vid rodret
Och en student har bli'tt kapten
Och vid kanonen står en bonde
och nattens svarta fè

Den far, den far
Den kommer ej tillbaks
Den far, den far
Den kommer ej tillbaks

Nu går en lärare i båten
och en soldat och en poet
Och allra sist en liten flicka
som också vill vara med

Hon far, hon far
Hon kommer snart tillbaks
Hon far, hon far
Hon kommer snart tillbaks

Nu är båten fylld av sjömän
Men dom ska inte ut i strid
Nej, dom ska söka efter landet
där drömmarna får liv

Dom far, dom far
Dom far på hoppets hav
Dom far, dom far
Dom kommer snart tillbaks

THE BARK BOAT

Look, there goes a boat of bark
with hope on the great water.
It is filled with dreams,
And no one can take it.

It goes, it goes.
It never comes back.
It goes, it goes.
It never comes back.

There is a workman at the helm,
And a student has become captain.
By the canon stands a farmer,
and the nights black fairy.

It goes, it goes,
It never comes back.
It goes, it goes.
It never comes back.

Now there is a teacher in the boat,
and a soldier and a poet.
and at the very last a little girl,
who also wants to come along.

She goes, she goes.
She is coming back soon.
She goes, she goes.
She is coming back soon.

Now the boat is filled with sailors,
But they won't go out in battle,
No, they will look for the country.
where dreams can live.

They go, they go.
They go on the sea of hope.
They go, they go.
They are soon coming back.

KAARNALAIVA

Katso, tuolla seilaa kaarnalaiva
toivon väljillä vesillä.
Se on laitoja myöten täynnä unelmia,
eikä kukaan pysty sitä tavoittamaan.

Se jatkaa kulkuaan
palaamatta takaisin.
Se jatkaa kulkuaan
palaamatta takaisin.

Ruorissa on työmies
ja kapteenina opiskelija,
tykin äärellä talonpoika
ja yön musta haltia.

Se jatkaa kulkuaan
palaamatta takaisin.
Se jatkaa kulkuaan
palaamatta takaisin.

Nyt laivaan astuu opettaja
ja sotilas ja runoilija
ja aivan viimeisenä pieni tyttö,
joka myös haluaa olla mukana.

Tyttö matkaa laivalla.
Hän palaa pian takaisin.
Tyttö matkaa laivalla.
Hän palaa pian takaisin.

Nyt laiva on täynnä merimiehiä,
mutta he eivät ole menossa sotaan.
Ei, he ovat etsimässä maata,
jossa unelmat muuttuvat todeksi.

He matkaavat laivalla
toivon aavalla merellä.
He matkaavat laivalla,
ja palaavat pian takaisin.
