Keep The Home Fires Burning

Ivor Novello, born in Cardiff, was only 21 when he wrote Keep the Home Fires Burning (Till the Boys Come Home) in 1914, which touched all families at the outbreak of war with its hopeful message. It was an instant hit. Novello’s war service was less glorious. After a stint in the Royal Navy Air Service, crashing two planes, he enjoyed a long postwar career as an actor, writer and composer of musicals. The Ivor Novello awards are named in his honour. The words of the song are by the American Lena Gilbert Ford, who was divorced and living with her son in London. Both were killed by a German air raid on London in March 1918.

They were summoned from the hillside
They were called in from the glen,
And the country found them ready
At the stirring call for men.
Let no tears add to their hardships
As the soldiers pass along,
And although your heart is breaking
Make it sing this cheery song

Keep the Home Fires Burning,
While your hearts are yearning,
Though your lads are far away
They dream of home.
There's a silver lining
Through the dark clouds shining,
Turn the dark cloud inside out
'Til the boys come home.

Overseas there came a pleading,
"Help a nation in distress."
And we gave our glorious laddies
Honour bade us do no less,
For no gallant son of freedom
To a tyrant's yoke should bend,
And a noble heart must answer
To the sacred call of "Friend."

Keep the Home Fires Burning,
While your hearts are yearning,
Though your lads are far away
They dream of home.
There's a silver lining
Through the dark clouds shining,
Turn the dark cloud inside out
'Til the boys come home.

TENETE ACCESI I FUOCHI A CASA

Son stati chiamati dalle colline,
son stati chiamati dalle valli,
e la nazione li trovò preparati
all'emozionante richiamo di uomini.
Non aggiungete le lacrime alla loro fatica,
mentre i soldati sfilano via,

Tenete accesi i fuochi a casa
mentre i vostri cuori soffrono,
anche se i vostri ragazzi sono lontani
loro sognano casa
Ci sarà il sole dopo la tempesta,
non lasciatevi abbattere,
fino a quando i ragazzi torneranno a casa.

Da oltremare arrivò una richiesta
"per aiutare una nazione in difficolta'"
e noi abbiam dato i nostri gloriosi ragazzi,
accordateci non meno che tutti gli onori.
Perchè nessun prode figlio della libertà
deve piegarsi al giogo del tiranno
e un nobile cuore deve rispondere
al sacro vincolo dell'amicizia.

Tenete accesi i fuochi a casa
mentre i vostri cuori soffrono,
anche se i vostri ragazzi sono lontani
loro sognano casa
Ci sarà il sole dopo la tempesta,
non lasciatevi abbattere,
fino a quando i ragazzi torneranno a casa.

Mah, Dq82, are you fuckin' sure che questa sia una CCG?

Ciao
