Fears are sliding as tears
they furrow tired faces marked by the time,
which seems drawing crosses on brows.
Hopes become sand between fingers
and the shawls that taste of war
are hiding the weak and the rising mother
looking at her son running away, swallowed up by his own action.
Picking him up she gives him her last greeting
with last caress, as when he still tasted milk
and she caressed him to make him sleep.
Now lead and dust are sweeping out from his skin
cement smothers the horizon
and dreams break up as chalk under the sun
the wind steals cold tears which
are freezing even the last sun
