Versi di Langston Hughes
Musica di Randy Weston (1926-), uno dei più grandi pianisti e compositori jazz di tutti i tempi.
Nell’album intitolato “Uhuru Afrika (Freedom Africa)”, pubblicato nel 1961, dove Weston fu affiancato da alcuni mostri sacri dell’epoca come - ne cito solo alcuni - Freddie Hubbard, Yusef Abdul Lateef, Clark Terry, Jerome Richardson, Ron Carter, Max Roach, Candido Camero, Babatunde Olatunji.
Rilevante inoltre il fatto che gli arrangiamenti dell’album furono opera di Melba Liston, compositrice e trombonista (!), la prima donna (e una delle poche) a suonare in una big band.
