I ain't a-scared of your jail, because I want my freedom
I want my freedom

Ain't a-scared of your jail, because I want my freedom
I want my freedom now!

I want my freedom now!
I ain't afraid of the hose, because I want my freedom
I want my freedom
I want my freedom
Ain't a-scared of the hose, because I want my freedom
I want my freedom now!
I'll walk the picket line, because I want my freedom
I want my freedom
I want my freedom
I'll walk the picket line, because I want my freedom
I want my freedom now!
I ain't a-scared of your jail, because I want my freedom
I want my freedom
I want my freedom
Ain't a-scared of your jail, because I want my freedom
I want my freedom now!
I want my freedom
I want my freedom
Ain't a-scared of your jail, because I want my freedom
I want my freedom now!
I ain't a-scared of your dogs, because I want my freedom

Canzone nata a Birmingham, Alabama, nella primavera del 1963, durante le manifestazioni non violente per i diritti civili duramente represse dalla polizia col massiccio impiego di gas lacrimogeni, idranti e cani feroci lanciati anche contro bambini.
Sulla melodia di “Old Abe Lincoln Came Out Of The Wilderness”, una vecchia canzone risalente all’epoca della Guerra Civile.
Registrata da Pete Seeger in “Broadside Ballads, Vol. 2”, Folkways Records 1963.
