Canzone di autore anonimo rivolta contro Billy Hughes, politico laburista e all’epoca primo ministro australiano, accesso interventista e fautore della coscrizione obbligatoria per la Grande Guerra.
Nel disco intitolato “The Riderless Horse - An Australian Impression of World War 1” (2004) in cui i Roweth, musicisti australiani, hanno raccolto più di 30 canzoni e poesie dal primo e dal secondo fronte durante la Grande Guerra.



Billy Hughes divenne primo ministro alla fine del 1915 e, soprattutto dopo le ingenti perdite subite dall’esercito nel luglio ed agosto 1916, appoggiò risolutamente i generali che chiedevano l’estensione della coscrizione obbligatoria, fino a qual momento prevista solo per la difesa nazionale e non per guerre oltreoceano. Billy Hughes era osteggiato persino dai due terzi del suo partito ma ciò nonostante volle promuovere un referendum per estendere la coscrizione: lo perse, e fu anche espulso dal partito laburista.
