Mayn tsavoe - O, gute fraynt
[1892?]

[RV]
IL MIO TESTAMENTO
MIEI BUONI AMICI

Miei buoni amici, quando morrò
Sulla tomba recatemi il nostro vessillo;
La rossa bandiera simbol di libertà
Intinta del sangue de' lavoratori.

E colà, sotto quel rosso stendardo
Cantate il mio canto di libertà,
Alla pugna, che suona come catene
Dello schiavo, sia ebreo che cristiano.

Anche sepolto, io lo udirò,
Canto di tempesta e di libertà;
Anche là verserò le mie lacrime
Per lo schiavo, sia ebreo che cristiano.

E quando udrò risonar le spade
Nell'ultima pugna cruenta e dura,
Per il popol canterò dal sepolcro,
Ed nel suo cuore infonderò ardore.

MON TESTAMENT - O, MES BONS AMIS

MY LAST WILL - OH, MY GOOD FRIENDS

O my good friends when I die,
Carry our flag to my grave,
This free red-colored flag,
Sprinkled with workers' blood

And there, under the red flag,
Sing to me my song, my free song,
My song in kamf that rings like chains
Of the enslaved Christian and Jew.

In my grave, I'll also hear
My free song, my storm song
Also there I'll shed tears
For the enslaved Christian and Jew.

And when I hear the swords ring,
In a last fight of blood and pain
I will from the grave sing to the peaple
And inspire their heart.
