[variante: strofa aggiuntiva]
Mi hanno rinchiuso in un convento
e mi han tagliato i miei capelli;
ed eran biondi e ricci e belli,
m'han tagliato le mie beltà.

Versione Inglese

This song is probably about the italian military expedition in Albania (1914) . Giovanna Daffini, rice weeder and song teller used to sing this song in the 60's. Besides the political requests against the war the lyrics represent an example of struggle for the emancipation of the woman
I HEAR THE WHISTLE OF THE STEAM

I hear the whistle of the steam of my love goin' away
I hear the whistle of the steam of my love goin' away
he left to Albania, who knows when he'll come back

He'll come back this spring with the blood on his sword
He'll come back this spring with the blood on his sword
and if he finds I'm already married, oh what a pain, oh what a sorrow

Oh what a pain, oh wat a sorrow, what an awful beast love is
Oh what a pain, oh wat a sorrow, what an awful beast love is
I'd rather live without eating, but I want to make love

I want to make it in the morning and in the night until spring comes
I want to make it in the morning and in the night until spring comes
Spring has come but my love didn't come back
