Dear commander in chief I served in the army for 5 years
Willing to give my life for this country -like Audrey Murphy did
while I was in I got married and had a kid
and got a taste of the American Dream for a short period
things got serious when I got back from Iraq
I honestly had trouble adapting back from Iraq
Was never the best husband I wasn't really ready for marriage
but over there for a year and a half she was all that I cherished
I asked god for his blessing.. and sparing my life
that I could make it back home to my daughter and wife
before I left we would fight but nothing like when I returned
Before this I ran into the law once for not signalling on a right turn
This is a year later and I've learned from all my mistakes
and I can honestly say that I had or still have PTSD
and I'm not using this as a crutch to amend my sins
But treating Our Soldiers Like this just don't make no sense
The cost of war is the price we pay
Loose your wife, your kids, or your mother today
Loose your mind, your legs, your arms, your head
Loose your ability, your finances, your common sense
But
The cost of war is the price we pay
And there's nothing you can do about it
But Pay, But Pay
But Pay, But Pay
But Pay, But Pay
But Pay, But Pay
But Pay, But Pay
But Pay, But Pay
I had a 100 G's when I got back of course I didn't know how to act
21 years old I think I'll cop me a lac
or cop me a jag pop champagne and Gucci tags
because who knows where I'm going next time and if I'm coming back
now it's my faught for my act but why is this my mind set
why do I believe I must live it up because next time I might not come back
from combat... from going over there at war
so I spent all my money ...and now I'm poor
sleeping on somebody's floor... or somebody's couch
because the U.S. Army kicked ....my black ass out
I would been better off just going to school
so that's what I plan to do but the too my GI bill TOO
I gave 5 years to you... Shed Sweat and tears for you
and now I'm getting out so it's like fuck you
You don't have to own up to what you promised to....
I guess you don't... since ..I'm just another boot
But Pay, But Pay…
They Said I hit her and There's no reason for me to lie to you, sir
the second to the last time.. she hit me first
but her leaving me hurt especially at that time
where I felt like I couldn't.. control my mind
I tried to drink away the pain with wine...
For over a 100 days straight... I swear cried
like how could this all happen ...and why....
I got locked up 4 times in less then 4 months time
and my chain of command couldn't see something was wrong with my mind
they stood fast blind watch me destroy my life
watching as another soldier in the army fucked my wife
from him they didn't take one stripe but they tried to take mind
and he was contributing to the destruction of my mind
down to the bottom I went and again I must climb
If I knew this back then I would of never volunteered for the frontline
so I ended up loosing my wife my daughter and my time…
The Cost of War is the Price We pay
Loose your wife, your kids, or your mother today
Loose your Mind, your Legs, your Arms, your Head
Loose your Ability, your Finances, your Common Sense
But
