The first stanza is a poem written for Danish Amnesty International by Halfdan Rasmussen. The lyrics of the rest of the song are Roger's response to a newspaper article about the story of a Serbian soldier who helped an Albanian woman lying wounded in a burned-out building.
Halfdan Rasmussen (January 29, 1915 in Copenhagen – March 2, 2002) was a Danish poet. He was known for his nonsensical children's verse and his serious adult writings about social issues and human rights.
Rasmussen was a resistance fighter during the German occupation He became very well known and respected as a poet, nearly becoming a national poet of Denmark. En septembre 1992, passant par le stand de Rinascita à la Fête de l'Unità de Reggio Emilia, il nous est arrivé d'entendre lue à haute voix cette poésie de Stefano Benni. En lisant la quatrième de couverture du livre, nous avons décidé de la mettre en musique; en est née cette chanson au son pour nous insolitement méditerranéen. Nous avons fait entendre ce morceau au poète en personne et nous avons reçu sa bénédiction. Encore merci Stefano.
Dans « Combat Folk » et « Riportando tutto a casa » la voix est celle d'Albertone Morselli, tandis que dans « Raccolti », c'est celle de Cisco.
Le « campionamento » musical est une danse traditionnelle kosovare « Vallenga Gjakova ».

Ciao Sig. Venturi, grazie per la lettura delle sue belle pagine; mi interessa il canto da lei riportato che è diverso da quello che conosco di Dodi Moscati, parla di Napoli e non di Piazza Piattellina a Firenze; l'ultima strofa, come nella versione di Giovanna Marini, stacca nettamente dal resto del canto, che conoscevo perché cantato da mia madre (classe 1911, provenienza Casentino). Dilemma: il canto è di provenienza fiorentina o napoletana?

Smashing Of The Van was written to tell the story of the Manchester Martyrs, three Irish men living in England who were hanged for their rescue of two Irish rebel leaders in 1867. The van, carrying Kelly and Deasey from their trial to Manchester gaol, was ambushed near a bridge by armed Irishmen Soldiers guarding the van were puthed aside as the locks on the fortified doors were shot off with a gun.
A soldier inside the van with Kelly and Deasey was accidentally shot as the door was blown open at gunpoint; and the three men captured afterwards, although little sure evidence was offered, were sentenced to hang. The two Irishmen rescued from the van were never caught. Every year in Manchester the three martyrs are commemorated by a march through the city headed by Republican pipe bands; a tiny Loyalist counter-demonstration usually turns up to wave orange flags and hide behind the rows of police.

Ha un'origine ben precisa: The Edge la scrisse ispirandosi alla vicenda del poeta "feniano" irlandese John Boyle O'Reilly (1844-1890), che fu deportato in Australia a causa delle sue poesie. La "Terra di Van Diemen" nominata nella canzone è l'odierna isola di Tasmania; in realtà Boyle O'Reilly non vi fu deportato (lo fu, invece, in Australia occidentale), ma il titolo della canzone di The Edge risente dell'esistenza di un'antica ballata popolare irlandese recante lo stesso esatto titolo (Van Diemen's Land).

Ci tenevo a precisare che comunque Vitti na crozza oramai è un brano tradizionale e mi associo pienamente al commento di Fulvio da Siracusa poichè l'unica cosa che io sontengo è la paternità MUSICALE di Franco Li Causi, per il resto, dai testi, all'interpretazione, è soggetta a cambiamenti da provincia a provincia.. Ciao a tutti,
Mi sono imbattuto in questa discussione perche dopo aver visto il film 'li chiamavano Briganti' mi sono andato a riguardare la fiction televisiva 'l'eredità della priora', tanto per fare un confronto sulla versine dei fatti.
Tornando alla canzone 'birgante se more' che era utilizzata la sigla di questa fiction, mi suonava strana, come mancante di un pezzo. Son finito in questa discussione e ho appurato che la strofa:
Chi à vistə o lupə e s'è misə paurə,
nun sape bbuonə qual'è verità.
O verə lupə ca magnə 'e creature,
è 'o piemuntesə c'avimm'a caccià,
è stata maldestramente tagliata (dico maldestramente perchè si sente anche il taglio).
Tutto questo per dire che se questa strofa dava fastidio oggi (visto che la fiction è abbastanza recente) figuriamoci quando ha scritto (o rielaborato) questa canzone Bennato quanti problemi si è dovuto creare!

La "Border Fence", costruita dagli USA sul confine con il Messico per contrastare l'immigrazione clandestina, con i suoi oltre 3.000 km di sviluppo fa impallidire il Muro di Berlino, la Muraglia di Difesa israeliana in Palestina ed il confine fortificato tra le due Coree ed è forse seconda soltanto alla Grande Muraglia cinese, con i suoi quasi 9.000 km, costruiti però nel corso di una dozzina di secoli...
La "Border Fence" è stata incrementata soprattutto negli ultimi anni e quanto più essa cresce tanti più sono i migranti che trovano la morte nel tentativo di superarla: tra il 1998 e il 2004, secondo i dati della US Border Patrol, i morti sono stati un paio di migliaia, con un incremento costante negli ultimi anni... La "Border Fence", costruita dagli USA sul confine con il Messico per contrastare l'immigrazione clandestina, con i suoi oltre 3.000 km di sviluppo fa impallidire il Muro di Berlino, la Muraglia di Difesa israeliana in Palestina ed il confine fortificato tra le due Coree ed è forse seconda soltanto alla Grande Muraglia cinese, con i suoi quasi 9.000 km, costruiti però nel corso di una dozzina di secoli...
La "Border Fence" è stata incrementata soprattutto negli ultimi anni e quanto più essa cresce tanti più sono i migranti che trovano la morte nel tentativo di superarla: tra il 1998 e il 2004, secondo i dati della US Border Patrol, i morti sono stati un paio di migliaia, con un incremento costante negli ultimi anni...
