The Great War
2014 was the centenary of the “war to end all wars” and I had the idea to compose some music around the subject. Rather than just release one song or EP in 2014, I decided it would be an interesting concept to release one song a year, from 2014 to 2018 that, combined, would form one (longer) piece of music.
In 2018 Bad Elephant approached me with the idea of releasing the project as a full album and this opportunity has allowed me to re-record and reinterpret the songs I had written since 2014 and also include some additional ones, the end result being The Great War album.

L'ultima versione inglese che proponiamo in questa pagina, ha due autori di eccezione: la celeberrima coreografa tedesca Pina Bausch (1940-2009) e suo marito, il poeta tedesco-cileno Ronald Kay (1941-2017). L'ultima pièce di danza di Pina Bausch reca un titolo ripreso proprio da Volver a los diecisiete: “...Como el musguito en la piedra, ay si si si”. Si rimanda a Pina Bausch Dance Theater di Gabriele Klein per maggiori notizie e motivazioni. La si può apprezzare nel video live del 1988 alla Okland Coliseum Arena a partire da 3:14 a 3:53

A Santiago, durante le manifestazioni, l’intera città era coperta di graffiti, anche i palazzi storici e i musei. Vederlo è stato uno shock. Chi era con me mi ha chiesto: ‘Perché sei tanto scioccata? A mio parere questa strofa descrive molto bene l'atmosfera di criticità non solo fisica ma anche intellettuale in cui la giovane generazione di allora (1971) doveva affrontare e che cercava di superare girovagando con mezzi economici attraverso gli Stati Uniti.
